Looking to build g subs from speakerplans.com just wondered do i have to rebate the top and bottom bits to hold panels or can i just build flat to flat?..

Butt joint is no problem at all still....the way i see it every panel and bracing you add, still add to stiffen up the box..

 A few weeks ago I wanted to recycle some panels from some old cabs that had been butt jointed, I thought they would come apart easily once the screws were out, I was wrong! I ended up ripping the laminates of the ply apart, a properly glued and screwed butt joint is very strong indeed!

All my car audio slot port boxs i have built over the years have been butt joined and poliot holed glued and screwed ive never had an issue with 18mm mdf before like this anything over 2ft and i centre brace and its strong as anything. Guess ill look at the plans n see if measurements work out for butt joint n not routing out.

Amazed people are still here lot of the post i look through are either years old or no answer so thanks all

ok now a really silly question the plan doesn`t have wood thickness on it, im assuming its 18mm. but as ive learned assumption is the mother of all f*&k ups.

so rather ask first

Yes, definitely 18mm for a cab that size.
