Always avoiding these but seeing as it's 10x for £7 quid posted decided to give them a look.
We only do 5 events a year so going to make up a few cables and see how they last... Anyone have any experience with them?

yes, had to change 2 last week on a cab, weren't making contact with a genuine speakon. Had to change many over the years, a particular brand of high-powered and heavy amplifier popular on here use fake speakons and they're a common failure point.
The cable plugs tend to split easily, the blue collar at the back disintegrates, particularly those hexagonal ones. No point penny pinching at this level. Edited by kedwardsleisure - 16 September 2019 at 7:43pm |

^^ This, in the grand scheme of things using genuine connectors over fakes isn't much of an expense IMO, and who wants to be messing about with cables for ages during set up trying to figure out why some cabs aren't working or why some of the amps don't have any signal on left channel etc, etc? I certainly don't!

hey
yeah have tried many different 'cheaper' XLRs over the years, almost all are rubbish. The only ones that are worth anything are the Amphenol XLRs. They come in about half the price off Neutrik ones, and they're fine for cables that are used a little less, or for installs and patch systems and things. K

Don't buy, cheap rubbish you will regret it
leave alone the body threads tend to be no good most time you cant get a bite on to it, the connector pins pull out, and the connections are terrible ,also little bucket connections tend to be weak , and the grub screws are weak and don't fit n01 screwdriver correctly and housings tend to split way to easy...

If you normally use genuine neutrik you’ll realise just how bad the copies are! I’ve had the copies back when I first started in this game, and I seem to remember having a chair tipped on its back resting on a speakon in the back of an amp so it made contact!
It really is false economy buying the cheap ones, the extra £ spent is reassurance that you won’t have any problems. Edited by GAZ. - 17 September 2019 at 1:29am |

Guess it depends how serious a failure at an event it to you.
If you don't care about losing a cab mid gig to a dodgy connection or spending time fault finding when setting up then the £50 you saved is a bargain. I pretty much cba with the added risk for a comparatively small (Compared to the rest of the gear) saving so i only use originals. They're not totally useless in my opinion, just nothing like as reliable. As long as you're happy with that for the money you save, crack on.

That decides that then, I knew answers would largely be like that but wondered if some peoplr used them without any real issues.
You would think in the 15 plus years the speakon has been about someone could have made a half decent copy! I'm to make up 5 short links with the ones I have ordered and see for myself. If they don't appear useless on arrival.

Just buy the proper Neutrik ones, avoid the unbranded Chinese crap you find on eBay like the plaugue.
The only connectors that aren't Neutrik that are any good are the Amphenol ones and TBH for the difference in price its not really worth it. |

If you’re that desperate to save 70p per connector it makes me consider what other corners you’ll be cutting |

Speakons have been around for 32 years! I purchased my first set in 1990 (Twist with the locking ring) and, they are still working proper to this day. Just make the investment and, they will pay for themselves for years to come. Best Regards,
