Yes Hill Audio, that brings back some memories...

My first ever "pro" amplifiers were Strand Sound branded Hill Audio amplifiers, which were a lovely green colour, that I bought new from Audio Services in Stockport back in the 1980s.

I had 2 x DX100 mono, and 1 x DX500.

They sounded nice when they worked.

I finally gave up on them when one failed in a cloud of smoke when doing a friends birthday party.

One the subject of Crest Pro series, and I may have asked this before, but does anyone remember a 4u external PSU/capacitance bank from them? I've never seen one, but I think it was designed to provide stable power to 3x 8001. It may have been a late 80s thing, when the 8001 was the highest power model.

I had a 9001. Used it once and decided it was far too bloody heavy to be doing with.
Did sound having sex awesome though, I can imagine is would severely punish some speakers if given enough welly.

Those old beasts are suitabile for permanent install,an amp that is +25kg already not quite suitabile for mobile setup...but a 63kg amp...yeah... that LOL also not a pleasure to work on them LOL one rack with only 3 MT's one 2400 and two 1200 is a pain for the back Confused and they are 63.5kg plus the rack another 6-7kg...that will be 70+ kg,but the advantage is that you can always split that load in 3 LOL with the 10.001 you cannot LOL

He also had some of the 5000W ones that also died on him. I don't think that they were the most reliable of amps...   Dead

Which Harrison amps were those? I owned an Xi2000 and remember having conversations with Mike Harrison about making them daisy chainable and making more powerful models. He thought I was crazy at the time and I never saw anything more powerful than the the Xi2000 from Harrison.

"Which Harrison amps were those?"

I'm afraid that I really can't remember any model numbers, but they did exist. KDW32 seems to remember them as well.

I did take a look inside one of the 5000W jobbies once and it was basically 4 output boards, in bridge mode. All MOSFETs.

That's a bit like a lot of the high power amps we still see. The give away is when they don't have any bridge mode between the channels. That usually means already bridged inside.
