Hi im looking for some advice please. I have 8 pd 158s I would like to put them into double 15s cabinets total 4 cabnets. They would be crossed from 70hz or even a bit higher. For the high then crossed to a beyma cd10fe tweeter as I have a lot of these spare.
I release it's not perfect but most likely it could work somewhat. Could someone please recommend me some plans that could use. |

I think a single 15 to 1" might work as the PD158 has a reasonable HF response but, any 15 to 1" combo is likely to be a compromise with beaming from the 15". Trying to get a pair of 15" drivers to crossover to a 1" is likely to be very messy. Then I thought of Graham Audio who use slot loading to improve dispersion from larger drivers. Maybe something like that could work, if you are determined to make something with the drivers you have!

Thank you for your reply.
I had not thought much about the beaming problem. Possibly joining 2 tweeters together with an y adaptor to a larger horn may help? |

When you really power the 15s, overall sound will be terrible.
PD158 is one of my fav 15" drivers, but they are not designed to xover into a tweeter.. |

Why did he say "Tweeter then" !? Most cabs that have 15" and 1", have gap in freq between them, as most 15s dojn't sound too good over 1khz, and most 1" won't sound that great or last that long, coming in at 1khz. Now 12" drivers run upto 2.4khz, and then crossed into 1", different kettle of fish. |

if a 15" is beaming at 1kHz then a 12" will be beaming at 1.25kHz. 12" to 1.4" means better vocals with a little less top end response.

I've always found it quite easy to get smooth sound, from 2x12 reflexs upto 2khz, with 1"/1.4"/2" above. if not using bullets above 2" comps, then running 12s upto approx 2.4khz, allows Beyma CP750TI/B&C De85 2" Comps, to give just enough sparkle around 15khz. With shaping eq, obviously. |
