I havnt actually ever seen a 1550 in the flesh so cant comment on the actual size difference but i was always under the impression that they were massive compaired to the 154. I would have expected it to be the same as the difference between the 186 & th 1850. ie the 50 being much bigger.

PD154 is a beast! It has a huge magnet in a 15" range. The magnet is even bigger than at PD186 18" driver.

strange, pd homepage says xmax 6,5mm:
http://forum.speakerplans.com/topic34629_post404540.html#404540
different from data sheet

How many watts on the SPL?
looks much louder than this rcf l15s800 & pd158 spl print, here the rcf seems to have a more flat response, rcf first:

158:

or page 6 in "HD15 driver sims"

6,5mm is from old datasheet (400watt). In 2005 PD updated all drivers (PD154 has now 500watt, better Xmax) and so all new  PDF datasheets are corect http://www.precision-devices.com/asps/uploads/super/6.pdf .
PD154 and PD1550 uses the same cone and sorroundig. Displacement limit 22mm (peak-peak). The PD158 has smaller cone area.

So 1550 and 154 simulate the same(ish) but do they sound the same?

Some people complain the 154 sounds 'brutal' or 'hard edged'. Is this less or more or the same with a 1550? SPL isn't the be all and end all.

I did alot of looking around and testing when i was deciding what to load my boxes with
1550 does have a slightly smaller magnet than the 154
larger x max than the 154 also
played a lil louder than the 154 and also clearer (whilst louder) on the 80hz and 220hz freq ranges
resale value on the 1550 is better than the 154
1550 can be used in other types of cabs also incase you do change your mind at a later date
no prizes for guessing what my boxes are loaded with Tongue

btw, my box is ever so slightly different to the HD15 but not alot in it to be fair

yes mate, Turbosound TS215 copies, not alot of difference to the HD15 to be honest, internal dims are only a CM or two out, only diff i can see is that they have a 2 piece section instead of the curved section

they came loaded with PD154 but after testing i opted for the 1550 beasts

running a (2 x 15") box @ 4r of each side of a C Mark mr2650 amp n they love it, can play quite deep aswell if right processing is used Wink
