Hello,

Nice to see this section over here! I am reading the speakerplans.com forum frequently so I will try to answer the questions whenever possible. But I saw Vivo moved a lot of topics into this section so there already is a lot of information. I think it is wise for everyone who wants to build a Punisher or X-tro that they first read a number of these topics.

Both the Punisher and X-tro are quite complex too build. If you have never build a cabinet before I would advise to try something more easy first. The thing with horns is, they need to be strong and airtight for best performance.

The X-tro also needs a lot of amps. In fact this cabinet is something like a pornhorn top and some sort of HD-15 into one cabinet. The original X-tro uses B&C 1" + 8" and 2x15" 18Sound. But of course different drivers are possible (But I have not seen many suited 8" drivers)

Best regards,

Walt

Looking at the Punisher plans I see that the driver is 100% loaded into  the horns throat. Perhaps I have been looking at older designs but most horns that I have seen have the driver slot loaded into the throat. Can someone tell me why the punisher has no slot? I had been under the impression that slot loading was necessary. Thanks. Moray James.

do you mean that the whole of the driver fires into the horn??? unlike say on a WSX where the driver fires through a small hole into the horn??

Half of the air volume in front of the woofer is pressed towards the dead end of the horn, effectively acting as compression chamber, while the other half will follow the horn path, effectively starting at the throat. Some air in front of the driver might be doing both.

This theory might not be spot on in practice but has proven itself, in many designs and over time to be acceptable. Still other theories are acceptable too, as in the end they're just a over-simplification/approximation of reality, with all of it's flaws.
-edit- As a side note, many theories in modern science are accepted as not beïng 100% correct, just acceptable.
