I've just had the pleasure of reading all the PKN arguments starting back in 2010!
Tbh I don't think I've been able to address my question. I found a lot of sales pitches, some die hard powersoft loyalty and some scoop heads showing some heavy-weight love. I, myself have a sore back often as a result of some heavy loving.. behave. I have heard on the grapevine that the XE version will current limit automatically and is not user-defeatable, where as the XD will not. As such the XD is apparently better for bass duty over the XE. Can anyone shed some light on this please? The features on the XE make it a no brainer for the extra cost, but I don't want to spend £1300 just to be disappointed when someone gets a dubplate out. Cheers

From what I know, all models are the same. XE just has different frontpanel with some extra options.
Both limit current when needed, so XE is not different from XD there. In both lines (XE and XD) some models are optimised for 4 Ohm nominal load (4000/6000 etc) or 2 Ohm nominal load (5002) maybe that's the differnce that you have read?
