One of the last ones as JBL man says. I guess hitachi fets were running out at that point and they fitted the BUZ ones instead.
The vent on the back will be different to all the earlier ones too. The heat sinks heat up to just before the point it's uncomfortable to hold your hand on and the fan cuts in.

just got back from the sellers house with a replacement PPX, they had another
Later type power switch but still hitachi fets. Took the top off before I loaded it into the car and apart from a little dust, and the usual resistors going a bit brown this one is perfect.

I’ve still got it, there will be a few bits salvageable so it will live on in the form of spares for my other ones.

my longest DJ residency was in a PPX-powered venue; a stack of them higher than a man, driving Martin & OHM. They just kept going.

I ran a 900 and 450 into solid red lights and covered in condensation every weekend for ages. Sodding amazing things, went through drivers, comps (messy times) and the amps just carried on. Only mod was fans on all time. The G Wagon of amps.
It's everything, not everythink!

Was looking at the hire list of a long established hire outfit in Brighton where over 20 years ago I would hire ppx's from, and they still have them!
Eventually got my own, don't have it anymore but miss the thing still, and would consider getting another if the price was right. Great for mid and tops.

I've said this before on here but when one of my XR3801's went pop one night the only amp I had spare was a PPX900 so that got patched in rather hurriedly. It was running a pair of HD215's and considering the Citronic was 1.5kw down on the C Audio the difference in output wasn't that great, as I said before, it was the loudest 900w I've ever heard. It ran quite happily for the rest of the night stuffed in the gap next to the amps on its side in no flightcase.

Put the poorly PPX on the bench earlier. First I gave the burned PCB a scrub with some soapy water.

Didn’t look nearly as bad after a good clean.

Then I did some testing. First off I checked the 2 bridge rectifiers, both ok. Main fuses also ok. Plugged it in, switch works.

Both secondary of +/- 80v present and working. So power supply is still good

Next I removed all the output mosfets and tested them..

Those are all good mosfets amazingly!

Just 3 dead. 2 completely blown and one leaky.

I expected a lot worse than that to be honest.

Well Done Gary, would be an epic endevour if you could bring that back to life again.....

We need a "show off your PPX thread"....have a big pile of them here, most are the early mk1's now,so have to be nigh-on thirty years old now.  Thumbs Up
Be seeing you.
