In the next week i have 2 more to restore,first 2 had all the original working driver in good worder,the second 2 are with random drivers,with no internal hole to put the wave guide on,and it is so difficult to find the drivers these days,is there a place to find the original recones for the 12 and 6.5 turbosound cones?

Have a look for sale. Some 12" drivers are for sale:

Hi,

very nice!
How did you paint the horns and phase plugs, what sort of paint did you use?
I have just recently finished restoring two Floods myself :)

Regarding the drivers, you can get new drivers and recones from Music Group!

Thanks, looks really good!

I got brand new original drivers (LS-1209 and LS-6503) from MG about 4-5 months ago;

Beware that if you order new drivers from Music Group, these will not have the Turbosound stickers on the back as shown here;

Not a big deal really, but I do miss those stickersSmile

Also, the 12" from PD will only have 4 mounting holes and only two of them fit the mounting hole pattern in the box. So you need to drill another 4 holes yourself. Turbo probably did this mod themselves back in the days..

What's the pricing on the 12s?

Yes those are TAD 2001. The throat geometry/exit angle is not perfect for the HF horn, but still sounds ALOT better than both the original EV DH3 and BMS 4540nd. Crossover to the 6.5" at 6.5k to get more of that brilliant beryllium sound.

LS-1209 was £266 each ex. VAT and LS-6503 was £206 each ex. VAT.

The Radian Beryllium might be worth a look for a fancy option that fits a little better

Hi Kyle, thanks for the tip. The 475Be does not sound as good as the TAD 2001,
even with the shorter throat. The Beyma CP380 is actually very good for this horn, and much cheaper.

Best Regards,
RB

I seriously doubt that a big difference can be heard above 8k. With correct gain structure the 1" doesn't work very hard in the Floods since the 6.5"  is so bloody efficiant.

I have an absolutely mint Floodlight 760 if anyone might need a single one. Was sat in F1 factory for years and years literally is mint, original paint job, no chips or dents at all. I bought it meaning to buy two more but keep buying other rig so if anyone needs a third in perfect nick with all original un-gigged drivers let me know. Guy I bought it from did the same as me bought it then just sat on it.

If you are not able to hear the difference between an EV DH3 and TAD 2001, I would say you are suffering from hearing loss. I find the EV to be very harsh and unpleasant.
Even if the electrical XO is 24dB LR at 8khz, this does not necessarily mean that the HF is down 24dB at 4Khz, acoustically. I measured -15dB on axis at 4khz in this configuration. So there is still alot of contribution even below 6khz. Looking at the equal loudness contour, our ears are still very sensitive in this range.
You are of course entitled to your opinion, but I struggle to see how an opinion can be formed without actual experience.

Not sure what you mean by gain structure in this context, as this is something that applies to the signal chain. The amplitude is of course level matched to meet the 6.5".

Which only proves that without any precise measurement you can not just apply any sort of crossover point to any HF driver.

Yes, one cannot expect to get good results only by looking at spec sheets and applying theory.
There are many circumstances that combine to produce the resultant response.

might be interested depending on pricing/your location etc. (landed costs)
