DISCLAIMER: This is just a preliminary stock take of the current Punisher loadout around the UK, in prep for making a pitch for an actual event.
This has been discussed before, but I have an opportunity to make it happen towards the end of the year. Before I make the pitch to the event organiser to bully a building with as many Punishers as we can fit into it, I want to get a rough idea of who'd be up for it.
I'm looking to fill the main room at Lakota in Bristol with bass. There might be a small bit of money in it to cover fuel and such but it'd mostly be a 'fun' event and as such you'd be doing it to show off and enjoy yourself.
Anyone willing to pitch in theirs and see what they can do in a festival size stack? Once I have an idea of what we can do I can do some actual organising.

Just for the record, I have 4 and anyone putting in can probably get themselves a DJ set.
Anyone else you know with Punishers, point them to this thread please!
When I get a big enough total to make someone cower in fear I'll go make the pitch

i'll have 8.
question is: what amps?

This is the problem. It'd also help to know whether people have 4 or 8 ohm drivers in them.
Perhaps a chance for Void to show off some racks of Infinite 8 Mk2? They are just down the road a bit after all...

All our drivers are 8 ohm, will be powering them with 2 lab gruppen 4000 amps. Were also building another 4 over the summer so would be good to know a ruff date if possible.

We're up for it, as discussed. 6 loaded with 4 ohm drivers, run from MKII Infi 8, 3 X-Tros run from Infi 8 MK1 and 2 x Infi 5's.

Looking good so far. Rough date should be after summer, more towards the winter end of things I think.
I'll sort all that out once I get a scary enough number to suggest the event though!

We currently run 8 punishers (8ohms) and 4 turbo tms-2's. I'm know we are up for it for sure. We will hopefully have another 4 by then as well.

38 (42 if Animal Dan does another four) so far then, in-progress builds allowing!
I may well have another 4 myself by then too. What about ceharden, he's just got 4 and all summer to finish them should be enough? There was someone in Sc**thorpe with 8 as well wasn't there?
Reckon we can get enough for Walt to come over to experience it?

I will indeed have four sometime in the near future and Owain has another two so that's six between us we can provide.
I'm thinking a stack of that many Punishers in one pile could have some issues, mainly to do with the width of the stack being comparable to the wavelengths involved thus causing some phasing issues. Might need to think carefully about how we stack them.
Given how power hungry they are too, we'd need some serious mains to make sure it can keep up with demand. We'll probably need a full 63A 3phase supply just for the Punishers!

ceharden, you raise a good point there. i think it will enevitably come back on which amps are used as it is possible to get amps with a very low current draw, for example the crown xti's

What happens when the width of the stack is comparable to the wavelengths?
How does this phasing occur?

This is why I'd ideally like to get some nice company to offer us a demo of shiny new amps.

Would be nice to hear them all hanging off Infi 8 MKII's!
Is this gonna be where I think it is Toasty?

Hopefully it'll be in Lakota. There's enough willing people to pitch the idea now, not sure on dates because it depends when after summer they decide to start up again.
I'll call the relevant people tonight and see what they say, anyone want to work on talking to Void about loaning a rack or three full of Infinites? They should have made enough by then!

haha.. there's a convo going on currently on SJ with it being suggested they couple better to the floor stacked vertically (2-3 high), with the side to the floor
I'd always agreed with you personally that they'd be better as one wide horn, rather than having the "muddy" spots where stacks are next to each other

Without a doubt up for it.
We have 8 punishers. Were running 6 off a inf 8 mk2 and the other 2 off a c-mark MR3000 (until we get the other 4 and inf). All 4 ohm drivers so kick like f**k.
Located in the forest of dean so only a short drive away

No problems with 3 4ohm drivers a a side ont hat Inf8mk2 then? I know it's more than happy at 2ohms, but thats taking it that bit further..

Exactly what I intend to do, got the Infinites and Punishers but no 4 ohm drivers yet!
Jethrocker: it's been discussed before but the horn loading raises impedance, meaning a 4 ohm loaded Punisher gives more of a 5-5.5 ohm load to the amp. So six of them runs just shy of 2 ohm load per channel.

Only tried it with 4 punishers at the moment as the other four arent quite ready. (need to pick up those drivers this week charles)
What I will say is when I did run the four off the infinite they sounded amazing, kicked like f**k and the bass sounded excellent. This is my first experience with amps of this calibre and I must say in my eyes it was well worth the money.
Just need to buy a new rack now as the bloody thing hangs out the back of my current one.

Good to hear, my experience with the Infini 8 Mk2 on our Looney stack was very similar.
On our big rack, the amps are too bloody long to shut the door as well! Good thing we were due some replacements anyway

any one interesting in buying my 8 punishers off me.... only want 250 quid for each bin. sold in 2 groups of 4. (so 1000 quid a pop)
may have more punishers by then, so please give me a date.
i can power 8 atm, in a month or so i will get another decent amp. (funds prevailing) so possibly 16.

No proper date set yet, the people who can make it happen have lots of stuff going on over summer so venue bookings and such won't be for a while.
Currently aiming for somewhere in Nov/Dec period, so plenty of time for people to stock up.
Iain: Check your PMs please!

Done! The forum could really do with a little box that warns you on login when you have loads of PMs already, or a bigger quota.
