I bought this 2004 Express van to have a van handy for moving stuff around and for camping in on occasion and it has proven itself very handy. From helping friends and relatives move house to carting cases and cases of beer to my brother in laws bucks party, driving it 12 hours to Brisbane for a holiday and nearly 7 hours into southern inland NSW on a trip with my girlfriend at the time. Injected 2 litre, manual. Fairly low km for its age too. Every car I have has to have decent sound. I don't drive the van every day - I have a company vehicle so this only gets driven when I'm not at work. But still had to have decent tunes for cruising. So, I gathered up equipment I already had and bought stuff I would need. Only spot for speakers in these vans is two 4" speakers in the dash. So I fitted some Jaycar brand kevlar 4" 2 ways in those spots, and a JVC CD/Tuner/USB/Bluetooth headunit. This did for a few weeks while I got the rest together. I had two amplifiers from my previous car, two Jaycar Response amplifiers, a 4x50w that I've had since 2008 and a 1000w class D monoblock that I had since 2011. Great amplifiers for the money. A pair of Clarion 6.5" components were lying around brand new in box that I had bought but never used. All I needed was a pair of 12" woofers and to build a box, and trim the rear to hold it all properly. (To those not familiar, Jaycar is an Australian electronics store much like RadioShack used to be (which was Tandy here), they still sell electronics hobbyist tools, components etc but over the years they have slipped into selling a lot more retail consumer garbage) A roll of blue vinyl a mate had lying around, so we made up some trims, carpeted the rear, built a box and trimmed it and fitted and wired it all up. nice job. Did you work out the volume for the subs or just build it by gut instinct? Ive got a vw t5 that i use for work that's just in line for much the same treatment! Upgrade the main speakers and find a place to hide the sub...

Very nice build! I have the same van and have 4 6x9s along the shelf behind the driver and then a single 500wrms DVC sub to compliment these. The 6x9s are all on a removable shelf for when the front seat needs to come up for servicing and the sub is easily removable too. Gets the windows shaking! They are great vans, very reliable and go along nicely too. ------------- Turn it up! Turn what up? |

This was a few years ago now, I think it was close to the recommended volume or at least in the ballpark. Box is divided in the centre, 18mm MDF. |

They are definitely good vans, rust is the only issue with most vans of this style though. I've been fixing up bits here and there as they come up. Yeah this sub box is removable. It just sits there. Grips the carpet and hasn't moved an inch. There's a connector on the end near the amps I just unplug it and slide it out the side door onto a hand trolley and wheel it into the garage if I need all the space in the back.
