Just got a used 18sound 18LW2500 to play a bit with.
Thinking about what to put it in.

Cant test it in the Gsubs, Only got one driver.
And dont think it will fit inside my EV MTL2 (and still missing one driver) or T18.

But wouldnt it be more fun to make something for it?
Maybe a mini scoop of some sort?

Ideas are welcome Smile

I was just about to buy some of these too! Was going to try some sort of double mini scoop! Are you keen to try building something? I was going to attempt them when i get back home in a couple of weeks

Using the 18LW2500 in a T18 or similar cab would be a waste. Build something with more extension, maybe a TH or something.

Cab dims are (mm) 1480h x 560w x 840d. Or can do singles as 740h. This is dual loaded in half space 2pi :) Looks like a good alternative driver to the 9601 or B&C 18sw115.

Yes i will build something for it. Just for fun :)
I think mini scoop could be fun to try. Never build or heard a serious scoop. Only some oooold Fane 15" LOL

RCF ESW1018
Mykey Mini
MS18 mk2
Hugo Mini
HBL Mini
Bull X Mini.

Plenty of options :)

A 290 g Mms isn't exactly a light 18", it's actually quite heavy. Xmax 15 mm, BL 30 TM, etc.

It does have a small Vas for an 18", medium Qes, so a front loaded horn with a small chamber tuned near 30 Hz would do (could be a ported horn).

Are you for real? LOL
Is that how you "measure" the strength of a cone?
Thats a first for me LOLLOLLOL

Admittedly you make it seem easy. I could probably do that with most of my drivers though, except some of the cheaper but plastic cones.

Thats some thick paper then :D

But lets get some facts on the table. Enclosure type? How much power? What type of material?
Many things can destroy a cone like that.

Just out of intrest how do you rate the LW2500 over the LW2400 ? Different beast or is it just a slightly improved version of the lw2400 ?

Ive got a pile of Cubo 18's with the LW2400's in, have been very impressed with bang for buck and size

Its way more expencive then the 2400 for a start. It has much stiffer suspension and much stronger cone. Not sure how people have rip the cone up, but it is lot stronger then on the 2400. Almost 9601 strong.

I've just ordered 4 LW2500 with the same thoughts after looking at the specs marjam! Seems like a good price for a driver similar to the 18sw115 or 9601

Similar yes, close to 9601 and SW115 performance, no. I have them all here.

Guys, 18Sound had some problem with old LW2500 lots, and that was, heavy driver with weak cone paper. I've been one of the first watcher of the LW2500 destroying on easy loads where whatever other speaker would have been survived.

So, i don't know if they solved the problems by the time, just write them an email and specify the lot number and tell dem about the problem. Guess they can give you some suppor..

Edit:

It was happening 3 years ago or some.. Watch out of the Qms, is 22!! You better watch out, of the tuning of the system, if Qms is that high you expect to destroy the speaker before the time.

They "may not" be still in production..

Which may suggest seeking alternate solution.

How did you design the cabs?

Did you make them similar to another design, with few mods?

If the chamber or throat is not right you could end up, burning many drivers.
