Just had confirmation from the guys at Void and we are now taking advanced orders on these crazy drivers. Be one of the first to have one of the best 18" drivers ever made!! (I have one here, I know!!) :-)

Just out of interest, any idea how these would sound in place of the Viper Sub driver?

Don't you like the Viper Sub then Jamie.
I've had 8 running at once in a row along the floor and it was getting on for unbearable. It was hard to breath and was mashing up my insides.
V18-1200 was not designed for a small reflex like the Viper Sub. Stick it in 250 litres of cab and watch ya wallpaper fall off.

Yes, they are nice as they are, but the tops are just so loud and efficient, would be nice to have just a touch more on the bass end.

Jamie

Ummmmm,
2 perphaps.
Know what you mean, but the laws dictate that you can only get so much from a small reflex cabinet. I'm doing some half versions of the Stasys 8 with a neo driver soon. Might be able to give you a bit more ummph.

Sounds good. Have thought about another pair of the Viper subs, would make a fantastic little rig then (although it already is!), not sure how much more power I will get if run from the same amp, each driver getting around 500w rather than 700w ish. I suppose it's all about air movement, not just power.

Hello there Jethro, how about recone kits for these beasts ? Will/Are they available too ?
I remember the palava on PAP deciding on which kit to send out for repairs (A-Kits or B-Kits) for the v18-1000's depending on when you bought the driver.

Hope so too. The amount of blown PD1850's & V18-1000's I've come across, I've often wondered!!!
The only guys I though I'd see blowing up any drivers, are the systems that play at the roots reggae dances. You ned to stand up in front of the stacks if you have no idea what I mean. You'd see the speaker being beaten up & spanked (not literally) with no mercy.

@Tek.. Do you reckon thats got something to do with them being in scoop bins? My V18-1000s have had a right royal spanking in the Looneys, and we do big Reggae dances along with all the DnB and Dubstep, week in week out for the last 18 months and they've never missed a single beat!

I don't know Gramps, I only ever hear looneys a few times a year but hear scoops all the time. You maybe right.
Every time I want to hear your Looneys something else comes up, that's why I'm waiting for the next big session down Brighton so I can hear if they really are getting spanked like when I hear them in Carnival.

Come down to Roots Garden at the Concorde on the 21st of July. Gonna have 16 in there then, unfortunately the promoters have decided they want them in 2 stacks at either end of the room, so won't be as heavy. Trying to persuade them to let us do one big wall of them so you get the coupling effect to the max, and less hot/cold spots in the room but doesn't seem to be happening at the moment...

The driver in a regular Scoop becomes unloaded below 30Hz I believe, If a hi-pass filter is not used then the driver could recieve ultra low (<30Hz) signals from the amp, turntables. PRE AMPS etc..
Thus resulting in the driver flapping about a lot, and at high SPL's will probably lead to blown driver.
Just my two cents...

Tek,
You say you have seen loads of V18-1000's that have blown. My question is where are people getting the recone kits from. Void have supplied less than 20 recone kits in the 3 years the V18-1000 has been in production.
So are people using other recone kits, or just not bothering with getting them reconed?

Figure of speech Rog, maybe should have wrote a few. I didn't buy any myself as the cost of the reconing kit from PAP plus fitting cost from Wembley Loudspeakers brought it up to a price of working 2nd hand ones.
You're right, they are some out there which haven't been bother to recone them.
Getting the the recone kits for the v18-1000 weren't too easy to get, which I know put of a few people buying them in the first place.
Even after the testing couple sound guys have already mentioned the availbility of kits.
When are these 1200's gonna be available ? Don't want it to be like the 1000's where you put in your order & have to wait months for them to arrive.
PAP, hope you don't rush in getting these out in the UK then they turn up in the cheap thin card-board boxes, doubled up in wooden crates like the first of the 1000's we got a few years ago. I won't go into this right now anyway.
The P.Audio packaging was much better, PD even better still.

I've been using pd1850 carboard boxes to carry my decks around in for over 2 years and apart from a bit of gaffa tape and some bubble wrap they haven't been touched and are still rock solid! You can stack stuff ontop of them and drop them just like a proper flightcase and they still protect the turnbtables. The most overenegineered cardboard boxes I've ever seen.

The box for V18-1200 is proper Tek. Its a double box with 2 bits of wood top and bottom and won't let you down. Learn't a lot since shipping out the first drivers nearly 4 years ago.
I anticipated that your test would show the V18-1200 to perform as good as whats used now, so ordered the UK to start building lots 1 week ago. Its only worth doing a largish production run and to compleate building and testing of a lot of drivers takes us just over 4 weeks. Some of this time is speant waiting for parts, like the cones, so thats why I hedged my bets and place the cone order a week ago. So the first ones should be ready for delivery in 3 to 4 weeks time.
Lots have been made and there should be enough to go around. If it proves popular I will then start another batch so that anyone who wants some V18-1200's for carnival can get as many as they want.
I'm not into letting people down when it comes to something as important as this, so will try and keep the flow going and do an extra big run before carnival so no one will be disapointed.
Thank you for the test Tek and Lev, wish I could have been there. I would have brough a Infinite 8 V2 for you to have a play with. In fact I should have sent one up anyways, as there is stock in the UK now.
Rog.

Brilliant stuff to hear.. 4 years, Is it that long ? Out of the dozen I got from PAP back then, they're still going strong. (Never blown none)
It's not too late Rog to send an Inf8_v2 up, but we don't want to end up with blown drivers.
There'll be a part 2 hopefully with more people there, & two of everything (Cabs & drivers) I think in pairs it'll be much better & easier to test. I'll have one these V18-1200's by then...some of my mates too the way I hear them talking already.
When you check it, there's not really much left to test, other than to get the TurboMax loaded correctly & give that a proper blast in the A.S.S & shortman's scoop.

Nah, Infinite 8 V2 is one of the kindest amps on any driver. Do a test for yourself.
Load up 2 identical cabs with the same drivers and drive 1 cab from the Infinite 8 and the other from any amp that puts out the same or even a little less output. Run both cabs for 30 mins at the same level then stop the music and put your hand on the back of the magent of both drivers. Bet the driver being driven from the Infinite 8 V2 will be a lot colder. And colder runing drivers mean they will play louder due to less power compression and last longer and they are not so stressed. The amp can not be clipped what ever you do, so that will save a driver where an amp that clipps will not. There are also other circuits that monitor the driver and can put the brakes on if the driver is unhappy.
Basically its an amp for anyone who does not know or does not care how they run there system. Just put it in a rack and it will do the rest. You can chuck whatever level of input signal you want and it will just sit there and sort ya mess out for ya. You can go get pissed, have a shag or get a small thin man playing a bontempi organ to piss over it and it will just smile back and keep the show running for you. Thats how an amp should be. If you have an amp that you have to set limiters for, or have to monitor closely, then don't but an Infinite 8V2 as you're have nothing to do all night and get bored.

If I do all of those things simultaneously at the end of the month and my new shiny amp goes wrong or my cabs pop can I claim them all under the warranty that comes with the amp?

|

Yeah,
But the Infinite does not use electric, its uses very soft feathers that are hand picked from angels wings. These feathers are then very carefully rubbed together by monks to produce a static charge that supplys the voltage required to power the amp.
You might need a hairdryer to dry the feathers if they get slighly damp due to the piss though.

Sure, we are currently offering the driver at an introductory price of 239.95 GBP. This enables customers to secure their drivers before I take stock on the 10th July. When the drivers are in they will then be available at our standard trade price of 249.99 GBP.
I have done this as an incentive for early birds to pay and secure there drivers as I know I will sell out and don't want to let anyone down.

Price revisiting scheme.
I always said on here that the price of the V18-1200 was £249.95. Then a Void retailer decides to lower the price by £10 for a promo offer and you moan. Less is more in this case. Horse, gift mouth. Words like these are springing to mind. If a shop wants to offer a first time discount on a new product, don't knock it, take advantage and buy it.

Apart from scoops, a good design to put 2 of these woofers in would be a 500 liter reflex box tuned to 31Hz. Use 2 ports of 200 mm dia and 170 mm deep. Total box volume including woofers and ports is 530 liters. This design would give you 127dB at 30Hz. The cone is not as thick as the cone on the V18-1000 as the V18-1200 is do really designed for long horns. Woofers that survive in bandpass cabs need strong cones, so the V18-1200 might not be the best choice. I designed it for scoops and reflex where a higher vas is required to get lower bass. |

Some people even say Celestion FTR18-4080FD is OK, and can be had brand new for £129.99. |
Levy, when you compare the V18-1000 driver with any others in the similar league that can compete with it, sound wise, I personally think it is cheap for what it can do.
The PD1850 & Turbomax drivers is what I would say are expensive. (I still can't believe the new V18-1200's are gonna be cheaper than them too)
I remember the Fane XB's costing approx £155 a few years back, ain't checked the price lately, but for D'n'B music, I'd recommend the V18 over it anytime.
The V18's a very versatile driver & sounds good in loads of various cabs.
I've never heard the FTR18-4080FD so I can't compare it, but for what I do know, @ a fraction over £200, you wont go wrong with the v18.
A quick to look at it this way is, if you were starting out from new, 12 Turbo Max 1200's would cost £3360, 12 x PD1850's would cost £3240 & 12 x V18-1000's would cost £2460.
Even with discount given after buying so many one time, buying the V18's would save you approx £750. If they were purchased in small amounts you'd save about £900 & the savings could be used as half/more deposit on a new Infinate 8 v2. |
Now show me where in that lot you see where I'm moaning. (Is like you're trying to make me look like some kind a fool.)

I still love the irony of someone spelling 'morons' incorrectly.

Prejudice is bias. Prejudice refers to the negative opinions, judgments,
beliefs, and feelings we hold about individuals because of their membership in
certain groups or categories. When these negative views lead us to act in
certain ways toward these individuals and groups, the result is
discrimination. It may be defined as the hatred of one person by another -- or
the belief that another person is less than human -- because of skin color,
language, customs, place of birth or any factor that supposedly reveals the
basic nature of that person. It has influenced wars, slavery, the formation of
nations, and legal codes.

Yep, good assumption. I sit in all day doing nothing at all, digging up old posts, creating so called wars. You really got the wrong guy.
If anything was in any of the posts which was thought to be not acceptable, they would have been removed by the govenors or moderators, or warnings would have been sent out. That hasn't happened so they must be OK.
Strange though, I ask two questions, one about the price, the other about the delivery date, & I've disrupted the forum! Fix up!

What life has taught me
I would like to share with
Those who want to learn...
Until the philosophy which hold one race
Superior and another inferior
Is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned
Everywhere is war, me say war
That until there are no longer first class
And second class citizens of any nation
Until the colour of a man's skin
Is of no more significance than the colour
of his eyes
Me say war
That until the basic human rights are equally
Guaranteed to all, without regard to race
Dis a war
That until that day
The dream of lasting peace, world citizenship
Rule of international morality
Will remain in but a fleeting illusion
To be persued, but never attained
Now everywhere is war, war
And until the ignoble and unhappy regimes
that hold our brothers in Angola, in Mozambique,
South Africa sub-human bondage
Have been toppled, utterly destroyed
Well, everywhere is war, me say war
War in the east, war in the west
War up north, war down south
War, war, rumours of war
And until that day, the African continent
Will not know peace, we Africans will fight
We find it necessary and we know we shall win
As we are confident in the victory
Of good over evil, good over evil, good over evil
Good over evil, good over evil, good over evil

You are trying to preach to the wrong people, you need the politicians.
You are also in the wrong thread, and if this is all you need to say you are in the wrong forum. My respect to you for your views, but you are in the wrong place.

Hi there, maybe trying to resurect on old topic but can anyone confirm the v18-1200 drivers with production date 31-10-2007 are the so called early v1200 with the shiny metal magnet, and that there are now replaced by a black coated magnet with different bracing as well.
We have 2 blown impulse8 cabs that we now want to get new drivers for, can anyone confirm that the black coated v1200 are the way to go and the shiny one that still works may have to be replaced as well.
the pdf spec sheets linked to in the opening post have been removed, does anyone have a copy of these still?
regards,
Wendell Cheers

Good luck, Re-cone kits for the Void 1200 cost as much as a BRAND NEW Void v18 1000. Hence why we have 4 blown 1200s we've never got reconed... cheaper just to get a new driver!
I dont know much about the black coated ones but i think they are v18 1000s, ive got some. as far as i know only the shiny metal magnet 1200s were released, but dont take my word for it.
If you want to take the 1200s off my hands im willing to accept... pretty much anything for them
