So an off shoot of our bigger battery systems has been some wheelie bin systems. The Mk1 Bin has been around for nearly 10 years and we got contacted by someone looking for a wheelie bin sound so decided to apply some upgrades. The bin is a standard off the shelf from the local suppliers.... pick a colour !! Our customer wanted purple..  The main part of the system is the 2 x 12" sub and the box built for it. The box was designed around the volume for the 2 x 12" car sub drivers giving a good reaponse down to 30hz. That allows a compartment at the rear-top for the battery and for amps, chargers etc to fit outside next to the bin. The ports protrude out of the bin so they are not coupling to the insides. Grills are on the outside of the bin.   Also the space round the edge is used for the pole mounts which are just simple tubes with flat plates welded on. The poles slide back down in the bin when transported.   Next a flat piece of wood is used as a platform to cover the sub, this has holes cut out for ventilation and there's switches for amp / inverter / charger on&off plus. Input is a simple RCA which is Y-Split to the amp inputs that goes via an RCA volume pot.   The battery is a 60amh Li-Po which is a huge weight saving over the Mk1 bins SLA !! Also it has in-built BMS so will shut itself down if low S.O.C or voltage. The amp is a 4 ch 300w car amp with ch'1 & 2 bridged to run the sub. The tops on the Mk1 were car 6x9's but on the MK2 we used a set of Galaxy Hotspots that I had kicking around. We ran them up but as they are just 2 x 5" intended for just vocal range we decided they needed some top end ! So the tweeter assembly from a couple of old 6x9's was added to the front and wired in series to the 5"s. They had inbuilt cap' crossovers so nothing fancy needed.   So add some pole mounts to the plastic boxes, wire up the speakers, add a solar controller, an old solar panel and fire it up !!  That's Mk2 , Mk 1 and ..... my fave...  " Mini-Bin " .... Richie's son decided to make his own bin soundz ...it's got a small bluetooth speaker inside ! And finally deliver to the customer who was stoked with her new toy !   Still got to finish a few things but overall we are pretty pleased how it sounds and the portability. It's an easy lift into a van, easy to wheel around etc . PLUS the Li-PO gives us way more run time over Mk1 and the solar panel of course gives a daytime trickle charge. .p. ------------- Mostly harmless.... except if catering is shut. Nice Project! Just wondering how you realized charging the LiPo with the Solar Pannel since that's something i'm pushing around in my head from time to time.

Hi. We ended up using a cheap ebay 12/24v 30a Solar Controller. In the settings we managed to get it to bulk up to 28.6 and float at 27.8. The main thing is there's no absorb or eq timings which are only needed for Lead acid type batts. In reality the bin will probably be charged off the wall at home and the panel used as an extra for sunny days outside ! .p. ------------- Mostly harmless.... except if catering is shut. Looks like a quality wheelie bin :-) Is the internal bass box bonded/bolted to the inside of the bin ? Does it not have a tendency to make the bin flap around/resonate ? Also - what kind of Li-Po battery is that ? DIY ? 60Ah is a helluva Li-Po pack ... ------------- REMEMBER....POLITICIANS AND DIAPERS SHOULD BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON |

Hiya The Subwoofer box is flush to the front of the bin, so the 12" are only mm from the inside of the bin, grills on the outside.. The ports on the sub box protrude out a bit so it kinda " slots" into the port holes in the bin ( which have rubber grommets ) . Also the bin had a circular extrusion at the inside bottom which we routed a bit of the sub box to sit into. Lastly the top panel which screws into the top of the sub box is screwed in around the edges of the bin. So the sub box itself doesn't touch the bin except at top & bottom. No rattles at all. Ah - thats LiFePo4 - which in common battery parlance is a different thing to Li-Po. Could use one of those myself ... bit pricey though. ------------- REMEMBER....POLITICIANS AND DIAPERS SHOULD BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON |

Allright, so you don't balance them manually since the battery you got also seems to do that job itself. |

Yeah , that batt has inbuilt BMS so no need to balance cells etc etc. We wanted it as simple as possible for a user who wanted " plug & play " . .p. ------------- Mostly harmless.... except if catering is shut.
