Hi guys.

What I have is something very close to a funktion one res 2 copy. (15 + (8 + 1))
The 8+1 have an internal passive crossover.
The impendance for both the 15, and the 8+1 is 8 ohms.

What I can't figure out is how much power I can safely drive into it.
The amp I am using is a thoman tsa 4-300 - rated at 350W at 8 ohm on each channel (four in total for 2 tops)

The AES (not sure what sort of measurement that is) power rating listed for the drivers is
500W / 250W / 40W

Setting the limiter for the 15 inch is easy - I just need to be careful no to the drive the amp into clipping.

But according to these specifications the max output of the amp could be too much for the 8+1.
I also don't understand how much power theoretically these would need, if measurements are correct, (is it 250W? or 250+40? or maybe 500?) and how the passive crossover separates it.

I am guessing that the tweeter has some sort of resistor before it or some configuration of such, to reduce the amount of power going to it.

I have no knowledge of the working of a passive crossover unforunately.

The crossover frequency is listed as 2500 hz on the manufacturers website if that is of any importance.

Thanks for any help.

The bottom line is you don't really need to know how much power the mid-hi section will need, you just have to balance the overall output from the speaker and then set the limiter for that channel so it engages at the same time as the lows.

But once you have the speaker balanced you should be able to figure out how much power it's seeing, for example if you have to turn down the mid-hi channel 6db that means it's at 1/4 of full output.
