is there any disadvantage of using 16ohm speakers you are aware of? i am not, so i'm also wondering why are they not more common - in particular, my use case, which is in double 18's so presenting a 8ohm load.

i've found some for a good price so hope to buy them.

They will be alot harder to power and will need an amplifier twice as powerful as 1 for 8r drivers. So for me it doesnt make much sense. Although i know of 1 sound system who used to wire 4 16r subs in parrallel and bridge their 9001 on them and so managed to extract all of the amplifiers power across 4 subs.

If you have amplifiers with high voltage output potential ( i.e. most high power class d amps such as linear research/powersoft etc) then high impedance drivers, particularly in mid and high frequencies can make a lot of sense

Remember, Dub sound called Jah Voice, were absolutely immense, when they had16R 1850 Scoops, and they would bridge 4x of them, across Crest 9001.

So if you have right drivers, in right cabs, right amp and wall juice you are on a winner.

I also personally think 16R Compression drivers, sound better than 8 ohm versions, (when correctly powered), maybe why the illustrious ASS MX600, tended to be supplied with 16R JBLs 2".
