i wouldn't trust a single word on that spec sheet.

if you've already got them, go for it, they're going to be shit whatever you put them in, and at least you have some scoops :)

if you've not got them yet, save yourself the headache and get some used PDs or fanes.

I've heard from a few people that know there stuff that they say the bishops are good on par or even better than the PDs. Maybe they heard the bishops in a good scoop. Me myself have heard many PD 1850s sound shit in some scoops.

Then go for it. Order some, measure tsps, then you will know. The fact that no one on this forum has bothered to try, and one of the most prolific scoop men of the forum is dissuading you should tell you something.......

If you use any brand speaker out of its limits it will blow. Plus pd1850 is the most blown speaker brand, so dose that say pds are also cheap crap?

The only Bishopsound drivers I have any experience of are some 21's that seemed to be an 18sound replica, they were well made but were also very power hungry, I seem to recall that for what they cost you could have bought a very good quality s/h 18", which is what I would have done...
Have you a/b'ed your bishopsound drivers against say a PD1850 or Fane 18xb in the same cab?

The 21" are going to be ready next month but the BWP18 is the 1500w RMS beast that most people are using in scoop bins. See http://www.bishopsound.com" rel="nofollow - www.bishopsound.com for details.

So you don't request the drivers to be made to your spec?

I'd expect them to be supervised by a member of staff.
Universities often hire out their facilities to manufacturers. As well as providing a useful service it gives the students some real-world experience.

A lot of speaker manufacturers build their systems around available drive units.
It's usually better from the users' point of view because they aren't tied to buying spares from the manufacturer, with their extra mark-ups. And years later when the product is "no longer supported" you have more chance of getting a recone.

Problem is, tell tale sign of cheap chinese units are, huge qts or huge qes, with minuscule BL, which more resembles woofers for car speakers, as opposed to pro audio.

Saw bishopsound at plasa couple of years agoOuchClown

It's good they have a market I suppose but it's just Chinese drivers with union jack. Not my cuppa tea!. They had some unpainted unloaded cabs on the stand stand. Kind of looked like shuttering ply.

There was a market for soundlab speakers and carlsbro so definitely bishopsound has a market

Yes - our drivers are all made in China - very few PA drivers are made in England now as the magnets, baskets, cones and other parts are all made in China. However, the cabinets are all hand made in the UK with BB plywood. We don't use shuttering plywood as its not good enough. We prefer high density MDF for fixed speakers.
If you would would like to try some of our drivers please call Victoria in the office.
Best - Andrew

Happy to make speakers to your specification. We made a batch of 1 ohm 18" recently which were perfect. We have an anechoic chamber and TS testing if needed. Just contact Victoria with what you need.

Maybe that's why there are a few discrepancies. Are the tools calibrated there?

All the testing is overseen and double checked by senior lecturers but we are a bit behind on updating the data sheets on the website so best to check the latest stats with Victoria. New stock is arriving every month.
We are very impressed with all of the students. They are working really hard and carefully which is lovely to witness... Andrew
