Hi guys.

I have been asked to cover a room with alot of light beams. Old school style flower effects.

But the market is pretty thin these days.
Anyone got experience with some of the modern units?

I have already found Chauvet Obsession HP and Equinox Helix XP.
But I don't have a clue if these are any good by today's standards.

Yes stuff like those.

And Martin Destroyer, Punisher and Discovery.
Also the more modern units from the Mania series, EF and EFX.

The abstract twister 4 was the pinnacle of moonflowers IMO. But the Hypermoon / monster moon type effects were more basic and had wider coverage. All available at reasonable cost on your favourite online auction emporium.  Avoid any modern led based version, especially any unmixed “dotty” led output unit, they really are the pits

Check out the Showtec Dataflower (yes.. like the old one, but now with leds) and Mad/rainbow moon.
If i needed such an oldstyle effect they would fit the bill.

The showtec dominator is the de facto next gen room filler over here in the netherlands.. the laser is a sad add-on but otherwise a really nice effect.

But still there is no substitute for the opti strobeflower.. what a shame.

Agreed. I had 4 of them and as a set worked superbly together and has a pretty good throw.

My favourite was the Martin Monster Moon, a beast of a thing which also had a really good "wobble" function. I upgraded it to a 150W HTI lamp which improved it no end. I am still trying to find some Clay Paky Sapphires which are lovely.

Always loved the Geni XTC, loads of beams and loads of spread and colours that just warmed up any space.

Yes the Prolight Concepts Equinox Helix (either type) is a good substitute for an old flower effect, considerably brighter and sharper than an NJD Datamoon for example.
They're quite nicely built but dont bash the fan grille - it's weak and can stall the fan leading to an overheated LED unit.
