So I've built my mini rig and it's all ready to go (almost) but I'm unsure if any peaks or dips are characteristic with these designs that need EQing out?

Any forum members out there that have used the Cubo 18 / Cubo kick combination and what EQ did you find best on your LMS? I realise that driver selection can influence this somewhat but also the cabinet design to a great extent too.

Drivers:

Cubo kick: Eminence Kappa 15A

Cubo 18: P-Audio E18 ELF

I've completed the auto alignment on my DCX but a general pointer in the area would be appreciated too, just to roughly confirm the DCX has it correct.

I will redo this step outside at some point also.

I imagine that most people don’t consider replying to posts on internet forum either urgent or important. I can recommend Sound Systems: Design and Optimization by Bob McCarthy, which you can peruse in your own time, and no doubt there are plenty of self appointed experts on YouTube, telling you why you, and everyone else, are doing it wrong, which are available at any time.

Download one of the free measuring software programs and adjust your system manually. Open Sound Meter, ARTA, and REW all give accurate results, try them all and see which you prefer. This will also allow you to find your own optimum eq.

There are generally two methods of aligning drive units. The first one is wrong, and uses the time difference between the measured impulse response of each drive unit. The second is to measure and save the phase response of the driver with greatest natural delay, and then adjust the electronic delay of the other drive unit until the phase response aligns at the crossover frequency. It might not be intuitive which driver needs delaying, so it maybe necessary to repeat the process. Adjusting the delay should be done after eq and crossover frequency adjustment. Some systems need more tweaking than others, going round in circles sometimes a thing.

The reason the first method is wrong, is because the impulse response can be based on frequencies well away from the crossover, where there is no interaction between drive units. At the crossover frequency, both drive units are radiating the same frequency at the same level. It is at this frequency where the signals need to be in phase.

Although I have used the DCX and am familiar with its operation, I have never used the auto align function, so can’t say how accurate it is. AI might change the game, but generally auto setup functions are not optimum.
