Hi,
I was looking at scoop plans that can play down to 30hz and found the 914, has anyone had any experience with this scoop? And how PD186/2’s fair loaded in it, would I need to modify it?
Many thanks!

I was curious about this design years ago, I don't think anyone on here have ever made them.

No 18" Scoop is going do much useful, down to 30hz, especially with a driver, as terrible as the PD186/2.
Especially if you are going to use cheap amps or crap drivers.
I drew up a plan, that really excels with modern scoop drivers.
Is great with the Rolls Royce driver, 18sound 18NLW 9601, down to 32hz. I have 1x prototype built.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply, unfortunately I have no where near the £ to buy 4 new drivers and a new sub amp. I am currently running fane scaled up scoops, and will be using a Crest CA18 on sub.
I am currently having a S&P pre amp made and noticed that they go down to 30hz, being able to play well below 40hz is a very important thing for my system, but I am unsure how to go all the way to 30hz, without having to recone drivers constantly. Are there any ways to modify existing scoop plans to go slightly lower? Any guidance is appreciated!
Cheers

Can assure you, if your system can reproduce 38hz with authority from 4x Scoops, it will sound like 32hz.
However these parameters, are almost the worse, for a driver intended for Scoops.

Sorry, but you can't polish a turd.
Also, you will notice the resonant frequency is 34hz, so you will need excess eq boost, to reproduce 30h z with worthwhile SPL, and the BL is not sufficient, to rein in the driver motion with authority, when you add the e.q.boost needed.
If you can't afford big man drivers, like the PD1852 or better, you will have to lower your expectations.
Please also be aware, if you are playing at venues, without 32A supply, the CA18 will clip like a Christmas tree, and not do much useful. especially with 30hz HPF.

Ah ok, so with my setup using a pre that goes down the 30hz, I will need to use a DSP to keep my drivers safe from over excursion? Once I get some £ I’ll invent in some “big man” drivers.
Cheers

Would suggest first thing you do, is forget about 30hz. Then sell your drivers,
Trying to get 30hz from 18" Scoops, will just have you reconing drivers after every gig.
In the Mykey Scaled up Scoops, with 1852s, in pairs, would suggest 38hz HPF.
In stack of 4x, it will sound like 32hz.
If you had posted here before spending money, I would have suggested MS18 Mk1 Mini Scoops, loaded with PD1851s.

100% +1 back in the day used to cross at 30 hz 1850 loaded scoops, crest ca18 copy red lights on , then wind up to 37hz with a 48 db slope , lights go out , then you are free you turn it up again , no real change in low at all , but way more spl . bit crude but easy way to explain , this is how i learned in the early days :) for ref i use some full size 1852 loaded scoops and cut them 37 to 77 with a little parametric at 45hz and they bend your face full tilt :)

Hi,
Cheers for the reply!
I will forget about 30, but I am still fairly keen to cross them down to 35ish, have played around with crossing at 38 and at 34 and some tunes are totally different when crossed lower (some roots form the 70s) not just some modern digi steppas.
Anyone have any recommendations of modifications or scoop designs that will play down there safely, I heard the polar design could go down the 32?
Many thanks
