I have a pair of cabinets but put a a cheap 18" driver in them from a 18" sub cube that was crappy ply wood.
The Larry Scoops sound OK
Maybe one day I will put some long throw higher power drivers in them.

Larry Dubs were OK in their time, with PD 1850s.

Modern Scoops, with modern drivers, properly powered, will blow all 1850 Scoops, out of the water.

Time for progress.

When you say ( blow them out the water ) what do you mean?
Do you mean just loud SPL?

Sub depth, sub spl, projection distance.

PD1850 was an agressive spl monster, not very smooth sounding.

Anarchy, when used within it's limits, then silence, after it dies.

More modern drivers like PD1851/1852/18NLW9601 in correctly designed/built cabs, will play lower notes, louder SPL, and with higher power input.

Even the original Oberton 18XB1300W in my Lev .44s, outplayed PD1850 in ASS S118, probably the best 1850 Scoop, ever.

For me I go for tone and musical sounding scoop, just nice rolling notes.
1 of the best scoops ive heard was a fane XB scoop. Just played nice and musical

If Sound is not playing Dub/Roots clash, then Fane XB maybe fine for them.

But PD1851/1852 given enough power, will play nice smooth warm notes, with savage SPL.

All down to man's needs, and pocket.

When my good friend Quadro was alive, we regularly did dance, with 4x of my Scoops, loaded with PD1851 and 2x bridged amps, covering 500x people.

I heard in South London, people were saying, our system with 4x Scoops, always sounded better, than when crews played same venue with 6x Scoops.
