4 V-1200 looneys, 2 Stasys 3 mk. 2, run with a mk2 infinite 8, kryo 5.4 and XTA 226.

Looneys sounded very nice, at this stage they seemed to have a much flatter response than my old ones but during the rush on saturday to get them finished one of the drivers was accidently wired up + to - resulting in some issues at the club. It wasn't that they sounded bad, they were moving a shed load of air but musically something was missing.

the next day we took them up the lock-up and had a play whilst testing out dave t s new t.amp 3400 located the problem cab and un-plugged it. you could notice the difference instantly as that classic hard hitting sound of the looney came out but the honk that people associate with these cabs was not apparent with the source material we were  using.

Frequency response seemed nice and flat but with no way available to us of measuring it at the time it was done with good old ears and opinion.

As Rog is still un-shure of the cones ability to withstand being horn loaded i'm going to run them up a few more times in different scenarios before giving my final opinion.

You could do with painting the inside of those handles, but yeah very nice my favourite design right now, panda sound, white on the inside and nice hardwearing black on the outside, at least the smoke wont discolour the white any more!

Go looney pandas!

do you use 4mm or 2,5mm cables for the connection between the speakon plug and the driver ?

yes you can.. if your good with the iron!

Took me a few goes (ages!!) to get it right... loads of solder on the contact and the cable.. heat and dab... so you get contact>cable>cable..covered in solder.

Why do you need to solder two cables to one connector?

In order to take a cable to a parrallel out? If so much easier to solder just one cable and then split that single into two with a connector block or by twisting, soldering and insulating.

Another way is to take a cable from each speakon to the speaker terminals and join them at the terminal.

Also, did you know you can get crimp on connectors to fit those lugs on the speakons? the ones I've used needed a little squeeze with pliers to be tight enough and I used a spot of glue to stop them being pulled off inadvertantly.

I don't trust spade connectors as much as a well soldered joint.

Trick is to heatshrink the two wires next to each other (and tin them together) so you're only trying to hold one large cable onto the connector rather than two!

Oh, and 2.5mm cable is sufficient for connections within any cabinet since they're never more than half a metre long anyway.

Yes I was a bit wary of them too, but faced with a number of the 8 way speakons to wire up I thought it was worth trying. No problems so far.
