Hi folks, Looking for rig test tracks so if anyone has any recomendations for different genres itd be good, perhaps we could compile the ultimate rig test cd. My favourite all rounder at the minute is peter gabriel sledge hammer. Some of the lord of the rings stuff is good as well.

Depends what you think makes a good test track, I would be much more interested to see transient response of a bass bin when driven with a complex signal and how a system deals with distortion in tracks more than low end extension which is irrelevant for most music but useful for home theatre, you wont have heard of it but I think a track by Phillip Thompson (Kiki/ILL) called Berzerkey would work quite well - its a breakbeat style, with samples from detuned metal and a nice sub bass rumble in the middle over a 16th note programmed hardcore kickdrum, I picked up his CD after hearing it in the Cyberdog clothes shop in Camden and it rules very hard.

I'm gonna do a list of my fav's
this could be good for all of us to put a list up.
Rog has some goodies, but i think he could do with some more.
try Grace Jones...SLAVE TO THE RYTHM. Ccan anyone remember that opening sound ....TIIIINNNNGGGGGGGGGGG? great to test your tops.
Normaly the first thing i chuck on is a bit of Clapton, that voice and guitar does the trick.
But just lately i've been putting on BOLLYWOOD MOVIE MUSIC their voices just do it for me.
And all the Indian instruments are lush.

system check by ed solo + brockie
goes through all the sweeps, has 33hz, 50hz and 66hz tones, phase check then drops into some utterly disgusting drum bass - jeffrey cranked that over the 9bar stack at carnival and i think he may have loosened a few bowels . . .

| You have more chance of winning all the worlds lotterys all on the same day.
But I can tell you he has some Joni Mitchell tracks.
It took him 25 years to collect that lot, do your own and impress us.

There are a few test CD 's about one of which is the Alan Parsons CD. apart from music which we don't use, we use the guns and trains track to impress.
There is a CD made by a HI FI brand called Usher This is for checking ultimate fidelity. So, no crazy exaggerated bass on this one.
We have been playing THE SMURF for years both vinyl and cd. Excellent to show off dynamics and fidelity.
The rest of our demo cat is too large to mention

One of the vocal tracks used on the Stasys is Stacey Kent - What The World Needs Now. Might be worth buying one of her albums, very nice.

well, i think this is a very subjective matter... for testing i would use (in no particular order):
Depeche Mode - The sinner in me (from Playing the Angel album)
Depeche Mode - Precious (from Playing the Angel album)
Jack Johnson - Breakdown (from In Between Dreams album)
Jack Johnson - The three R's (from Curious George album)
Dire Straits - Money for nothing (from Brothers in Arms album)
Peter Gabriel - In your eyes (from Real World album)
Pink Floyd - Wish you where here (from Pulse album)
Pink Floyd - Comfortably numb (from Pulse album)
Pink Floyd - Run like hell (from Pulse album)
Beck - Elevator music (from The Information album)
AC/DC - Hells Bells (from Back to Black album)
Alan Parsons - Mammagamma '04 (from A Valid Path album)
Wagner - Ride of the Valkyries
OST from Gladiator movie
Vangelis - Mythodea album
and many more... but these would be fundamental...
cheers,
Matías

Heres one you can all download...
The full monty system test... everyone will want to talk to you when you play this

or individual files below...
Bink Audio Test CD
I was always unhappy working in live sound with the usual recording studio or home audio test CDs I've seen in the last 20 years so I made one of my own. I believe it is better suited than most for the Live Sound mixer to carry around.
If you have a slow connection via dial-up then the best hope you have for getting the test files is by downloading them individually. Here they all are... Right-click on each one to Save Link/Target As.

Hi,
This is going to sound like a get out, but I really don't remember any of the names of the singers or tracks I have. I have aspergers syndrome and baecause of my love for numbers, don't have the abilty to remember names. I don't mine not knowing singers names, but I hate it when someone walks into the demo room and I have to look at there name badge to remember who they are, very frustrating.
Yes jamie, one song I play does start with what the world needs know is love sweet love. Its a beautiful song and I play it more because of what it says rather than it being a good test track. There's a message in there somewhere, ha ha.
Tom from this forum also has aspergers, but as he is a lot younger than me has not yet learnt to react in a way people expect. I still want to be really upfront, direct and in ya face, but know this dosen't work with most people, so I have learnt how to hold conversations with people without offending them, ha, well most of the time. When I was younger it was really bad. Up untill the age of 30, no one could be in a room with me for more than 10 mins. I just did there heads in that much. So some of you might need to reconsider how you treated tom on this forum.
Here is a link to a site with a small amount of info about aspergers syndrome.

That's interesting Rog!
I employ a young chap that has exactly the same condition, aspergers syndrome.
He's amazing on the subjects he loves, computer networks happen to be his thing and he gobbles up information like nobody else I know and works very very fast... truelly gifted.
Keeping him on track and not distracted can be very hard, and he does tend to get a bit cocky / big headed at times tho (sometimes undeservidly).

Ha ha, yep it will be hard for you, but keep at it as he will reward you in other ways.
Distraction is the biggest problem for me too. Its why I can't work in the UK. I have to be in a place where do one can talk to me or contact me.
It would also be good if you start to teach him how he is expected to act in public. Its a hard thing as you have no contol over your actions and you just think you are being yourself. He's going to have to learn how to act very well and know whats expected of him if he is to lead a normal life. I have servere aspergers and if I'm with people I know know and have to act all day I will be compleatly worn out by the end of the day.
Its why I drank all the time when I came to see you Mykey. I haven't had one drink after I got back to china and my comfort zone. But if I'm with new people and different surroundings then one way to cope is too drink lots and be in a state where nothing matters. Its a crap way of doing it, but saves me from being worn out all the time from the acting.

Don't know if anyones heard of a group called Afterlife. I very strongly recommend one of their albums:
Afterlife - Speck Of Gold
Fantastic chillout, ambient album with fantastic bass lines and melodies.
