but now im just stuck between the micro scoop and the punisher
i alwready have fane 15Xb's to go in the micros
and i have 15" scoops running on a plx 3402 - match made in heaven
but i hear so much about these punishers
http://speakerplans.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=6547

For the Music you're playing, you're system needs to be very efficient to 40hz at least.
Unfortunately, dub, rap and rnb dont usually go well with small cabs.
Are you sure 4x scoops would be too large? That would handle upto 400 people venues.

i use scoops rite now. and its not a problem seeing as i have people to help lug them around and large vans. but im parting from that system rite now to go on my own. so this is why i was concidering the punishers, or the 15" microscoopes,
plus i dont use kick bins with scoops, the sound is alwready well rounded -> less boxes easier on my back
Dont the punishers go fairly low?

Punishers don't go that low unless in a huge stack.
So your saying it's only you carrying the boxes now? If so, Shortman's mini scoop 18 goes very low from only 2 loaded with Void V18-1200. 4 is devastating.

Yeah the smaller the boxes the better. is there any way i can accuire this shortman design?

plans? no. I think Shortman builds to order. I'm sure someone on here can put you in touch with him.

well im in the US. so id cost to much to be shipped. i guess im back to the punishers.
i just liked the microscoopes because they look easy to knock up and i read somewhere that the output is good
and im not worrying too much about how low it will go- ill probly build 6-8 im sure thats enough to put me around 40hz no problem
but to 8 micro's id only be able to build 4 punishers to match my amps
still confused

18'' Miniscoops will do better than punishers for the type of music you play trust me.... I dont think the 15'' microscoops will do much damage unless they are used in big numbers but then agen you have the fane drivers..
What amps are u using???

You cant really limit the size of cab, and also require decent sub for rnb, soca, dancehall and also want flexibility to do live work.
4x 186Horns and 2x MT122 would be a serious start for what you are aiming for.
186 Horn will have no near the efficiency of scoops, but stack of 4x will get you flat downto approx 40hz.
If you want to carry as little equipment as possible, start by getting a crown vz5 for sub.

there is talk about the P audio sd 12 in the punishers, with that i can use the plx i currently have and make a larger quantity of them
or maybe ill stop being a dick about things and just round up a crew

I would only accept advice from people who have heard both cabs... ppl often do not qualify their statements which leads to opinions being expressed rather then actual facts.... it is a bad habbit we all suffer from.
there is a big difference in saying 'i think it will sound like xxx' and 'i have heard it and it sounded like xxx'

If you search the forum [using the box in the top right hand coner, pressing advanced search, select 'any date' instead of the 'last sixth months' for micro scoops you will see that 3 forum members have built them in the past... it might give you some good background info.
the Punisher has its own forum section ofcourse along with its own cult status.

no i havent heard them both, yjay is why i had no comment on the subject. If you want someone to speculate then that again is tough.
the problem with the punisher, as i see it, is that it doesnt really go low enough to be a sub or high enough to meet the tops [hence the x-tro having the kick section built in] so really you would have to build both punishers and x-tros. the micro scoops would probably be louder, as they are both horn loaded and direct radiating but i would think the punisher would have beter sound quality. it is all guess work though, so who knows. try searching the forum for comparable plots of the two cabs

I think Punishers are under-rated as a sub cabinet, I've put 6 together crossed at 37Hz and it put out some serious noise at the lower end of the spectrum. They love the dubstep, for definite. You don't need Xtros either, I've been very impressed by a Punisher/HD15 combination.
I haven't heard any mini-scoops so can't compare but from other scoop experience I think they would be better if you were going to play mostly soca/dancehall, with live work being a rarity.

even to that mircea bartic loaded 4 punishers with P audio's SD12 and hit 143 dB and im sure he rolled off right around 40Hz
and thats exactly what im looking for
Toasty...
Do you have anything above your punishers for bass?
|
Posted By: toastyghost

Bear in mind that Mircea's were modified so that the driver fits, and I've read on PSW that a lot of the perceived extra output from that driver would be down to distortion (although I don't know enough to very this myself).
I haven't sorted what's officially going above mine yet, because I'm trying to save for some Turbosound Aspect but 1 HD15 to each Punisher and then maybe some Porn Horns or Turbo Floodlight/TMS range would be very nice.

has anyone tried using punishers in the upper bass band.
i have some 18" plans that are well from 30-80Hz
then if its possible i can have the punishers from 80- 150 or so
and my tops will pick up .
will i get any sort of canceling?
(the 18" is a scoop)

the whole point of me tring to incorprate the punishers in there is because i want to do a compar. of my 18" and the punishers.
i know the 18 will play lower but i want to get the most spl as i will have a decent sized stack
so rather than buying some 12' drivers just to use for a test
i might as well use them in the rig
(that's only if i decide to go with my 18 plans)

Puns are horn loaded and will own the 18s for efficiency (more power, less watts). I think the 18s will give you a wider passband though.
