hi
This is my first post here aldough i am reading the forum werry often.
I have 2 of this drivers and i'm planing on purchasing another 2. the curent drivers i have are used in bass-reflex boxez with good results but now i am thinking of upgrading my sistem by adding 2 drivers and placing them in some horn boxez.
From my point of wiew the T/S of the driver will be ok for the 1850 as well as 1850 but i would like to ask u if u ever used this driver in this kind of enclosures. If u did plz tell me how they performed!
i have constructed one 186 sub and it sounds great but i am afraid not to ripp the cone of the speaker in long term use that's why i am asking for ur' opinion on this.
i will only put at moast 1 kw on each cab
a pick of my build( for tests only) that's why they look so rough LOL

ps: there is no way i can sell this speakers and buy 4  diferent drivers.

RCF LF18N401 here are some preferences

THIELE - SMALL PARAMETERS
Resonance frequency Fs 32 Hz
DC resistance Re 5.1 Ohm
Mechanical factor Qms 6.5
Electrical factor Qes 0.27
Total factor Qts 0.26
BL factor BL 27.8 T - m
Effective Moving Mass Mms 201 gr
Equivalent Cas air load Vas 257 liters
Effective piston area Sd 0.122 m2
Max. linear excursion (mathematical) Xmax 8.8 mm
Voice - coil inductance @ 1kHz Le1k 2.5 mH
Half-space efficiency Eff 3.01 %

I'd put that driver in the 1850 design cab.

I think it will sound really good. The Vas is a bit higher than the PD1850 which is a good thing. The RCF's does not have such a powerful motor system and so will have a bit more low bass and less kick. All things that should make it sound really good in the 1850 horn.

Rog.

There ya go!

But its not a good idea to mix 186 and 1850 horns.....

he will not mix 186 with 1850. he build a 186 simply for a test with P.Audio HP18 S. And now he wants to know if the rcf driver, n401, will work in 1850. mainly he's concerned that the cone will tear up.

great !!  thanks a lot Jake.
I wana start a new sistem and i want the greater spl posible out of 4 x bass bins. That's why i have interest in 1850 or 186 horns.
On top of 2x1850's i am planing on using a stipe 2x12" waweguide design ( smt 212 ) with Paudio c12-300mb.Smile
i'm pretty excited how 4 horns will sound compared to my reflex cab in witch my 18" stands at this moment Tongue

Expect a louder, faster but harder sound from the 1850s,

They should be a few decibels louder for the same input wattage.

The reconed is an SD18EL.
It just died afther an extremly compressed musical signal.

Hmm really it looks more like an RCF. I guess im used to a different model or something i thought the magnet has some kind of cooling fins on it.
so then they must have modified the 1850. i believe rog said the sd 18 would work just wont fit.

it does fit but it's a tight fit. Duuno if this could be a problem but there is not much space between the magnet and the botom pannel of the sealed chamber

wow extremely tight fit. careful for overheating thoes coils.
I think im going to try the RCF 18X400 and see what happens in the 1850 cab.
4 for now. just waiting to sell off my set of Gsubs first tho.

U have acces to rcf drivers in the US and don't have acces to PD? or paudio?

Posted By: mylesound
Date Posted: 01 April 2008 at 9:03pm
I have access to P audio SD 18 to be exact but not the sd 18el , i doubt the sd 18 will fit in the 1850.
And i have no way of getting PD speakers here either.

the two sd18el 1Kw rms each died after putting in 3 kw of music in the two of them. the clipmeters never backed down and then, from a berry dcx was giiven a gain of +12 db at 50 Hz. i saw the red lights turn bright on the dcx, and on the amplifier. this lasted about 10 minutes and then they died. this was a test to see how much the sd resists.

@mylesound

if you will trey the 18x400 from rcf in 1850 cabs, please put some reviews. i'm considering to buy two of the to use'em in bas reflex and in the future to use them in 1850.

p.s.

i'm one of the rare persons in the world to cut off a sd18el LOL

Loll
well RCF is great in reflex as i tried the p300 in my Gsubs and it sounded great and @ 1000w took tools off my shelf.
i need more SPL tho.
just going to miss that DEEP bass

+12dB @ 50Hz!   LOL

What did you high pass them at?

Posted By: AdiRCF
Date Posted: 02 April 2008 at 10:45am
at 40 hz with a 18 db slope i think. it wasn't me at the buttons but when i saw the moment in wich 12 db were added al 50 hz, my heart froze Stern%20Smile . the sound was a bit muddy, hardlly noticeable but we were to excited to noticed that.

remember, it was just a test done by the main dealer of paudio in romania to see if the sd18el could keep up with that abuse. at 1,5 kw music per driver, passed in 2 compressors, i think the signal became in to a sine wave LOL . the horns were connected in paralel on a bridge amplifier and when the first driver faild at 1,5 Kw, on the second a quick impulse of 2 Kw ended him to.
Mircea Bartic could confirm this.

the test was really funny. but the burned sd18el is a real bad ass stincker. smells really nasty when burned, and i mean reaaaaaly ugly AngryThumbs%20Down

Noob question, sorry might be common sence but,
using 6 1850s, 3 on each side of a stage, to get my tops up high enough i will have to put all 3 on their sides. i will not be able to couple the mouth's of the horn.
will i get the same cut off rate as if it was stand alone?
or will i be able to go alittle bit deeper?

yeah i guess it will go lower as iff u would use a single one.
u could try and stack 2 on theyr side as in the vid shown above and on top of them u could put the 3'th sub standing straight.. this way u will have the same hight.I saw scoops stacked like this i guess it would work for 1850 too

sorry my friends 50hz is just not low enough for me.
when im not doing live sound im dj'ing soca, dancehall, hiphop
so im going to continue to look around at some other plans that can get me into the 40's pref 30's if possible.
or might just scale up my Gsub stack

The horn length for an 1850 is not long enough to support frequencys below about 45Hz, no matter how big the stack is, if you're after a horn that drops really low then its going to be big, and your going to need alot of them! maybe look into ported horns? check out my ported horn in the "new projects section" the horn covers down to 50ish and the port hopefully down to 33/34ish and (80x60x60cm)
