1998 Ford Transit 100 with all the extras. C/L, A/C, Electric Mirrors, Heated front screen
Shame about the 76HP engine but she's done 262k miles and still going strong (well, maybe not the bodywork!)

1993 Transit. only done 96k miles and I'm the second owner.
I did have to remake the wheel arches last year from ply and wood filler. Everyone laughs and says my van won't rust, but it may get woodworm. I painted the wheel arches so that they are not obviously wooden.

I just 'adjusted' my wheel arches with a hammer to make it pass its MOT!
I reckon with these old transits, if you keep driving them you'll be left sitting on a bare chassis cos the mechanicals last forever but the body will have long rusted and fallen off!

Xlogic what year is your Nissan?
We used to have one of those, went like a fecking rocket, about a year after we got ours they started to de-tune the engines on them, and we went for a drive on the 300ZX which was supposed to be better a few years later and it was terrible by comparison.

Just sold my merc 310d van (360,000 miles) with 100 horses and a 3 litre straight 5 to make way for a merc 814 truck with a 6 litre straight 6 and 140 horses.
runnaround is a 96 pug 106 that I was given, it has f-all miles on it and is by far the fastest thing I have ever driven. I'm of the inclination that if you can't fix it with a lump hammer and an adjustable wrench it's the wrong vehicle for me.

i am taking my category c because i need to stretch beyond a 3.5 tonner, not really any point in doing c1, the gaffer is currently scouring auction lists etc to get a 4.6-7.5 tonne van. i want an 811 t2, he wants to get me a lwb 416 cdi because he thinks it'll cost less to run. he's probably right too, but i feel the extra space 40cm of increased width provides would be rather handy! plus the t2s are proper trucks, not jumped up panel vans...

I got my cat C a few months ago, expensive buisness, but a good chortle. Soon you'll be refering to it as 'class 2' as per the old system, Because telling someone within the transport trade you've got a cat C is normally recieved by a 'what are you talking about?' facial expression.
Agency gigging at the moment, recently been driving rigids with a draw bar, but without the trailer, the upshot being ~12litre engines, ~380bhp and 16 gears. No worse on fuel than a standard 18 tonner.
I too own a transit, lwb 190 6 stud wheels and only 5 gears, upon which rust has made considerable progress the last few months, but it passed it's MOT last week with just a weld the exhaust required. Happy days.

I'm another Volvo driver... L-plate 850GL, 2 litre 143hp petrol engine. With a tow bar of course. Coming up to 200k on the clock but apart from a few squeaks and rattles she runs like new. Helps that my brother is a mechanic... Since the photo was taken (which is before I ever drove it, I bought it at auction and this was just after it was delivered) I've added a genuine Volvo lip spoiler on the boot, finishes it off nicely
And I also drive a tank... sorry, LDV Convoy, pictured below again before I'd driven it with the previous owner's sign writing still on the side. Its a bit tatty but for 300 quid I'm certainly not going to complain! Certainly has paid for itself in van hire fees saved...

Seems that there are quite a few E30 BMW owners on this forum...
If you're enthusiasts, try looking at www.e30zone.net (sorry if you already know of this)...
My daily drive is this E30 325i SE 4dr...Chipped UK chip (189bhp), Magnex exhaust, rest is standard...

I also have an E30 M3... Early model 195bhp, Euro CAT, but now has Schrick 272 inlet cam, ported and polished inlets, fully balanced and lightened throughout. Strut brace, Polybushed suspension on Faulkner springs and AVO adjustable dampers. Also now has an Evo 3 rear spoiler, Black diamond brakes with Ferodo DS2500 pads.

My rig travels in my slightly worse for wear Merc 609D... Bodywork is showing signs of neglect and disrepair, but it is strong structurally and mechanically...

On the E30 theme (there is one), my G/F now drives a very clean 320 Touring I picked up for almost nothing...No rust and everything in 100% working order!

1976 Mini 1000. It's getting a bit scabby again, must be 5/6 years since I last attacked it with the welder and spray gun.
1380cc engine, modded head, decent cam etc, decent brakes (the original drums on the front were comical/frightening), currently uses a single carb, but I'm working on an EFI setup.
Very practical car for windey little Cornish roads, and easy to park in Newquay in the summer.

Loving the load area of the mondy estate... bt have always had a slightly heavy right foot...
My Baby :
2.5l V6 ST24 Estate... had a gps clocked 143mph out of her... (it was off the clock at 150)
and my best mates scooby estate... mine kills it off the line, then he catches up, but its a jap car so its restricted to 120 odd... so i then cruise off into the distance... he hates it!

My new beast

mercedes 1823. GVW=18t, weighs in at 10t empty at the moment 459,000 KM on the clock.
The drive drive home was painfull, the truck drives well but the air conditioning isn't working and obviously because it's totally armoured none of the windows open. It was like driving an oven (or a safe) on wheels. First priority is to get the aircon working again.
passed it's MOT first time.

the internal space is currently divided by a steel bulkhead with a safe style door on it. The revolving door and pass through hatch all take up space so these will be removed.
I brought it to convert to a robust campervan, the box is fairly roomy, total length is about 5m inside by about 2m high and 2.5m wide. This is fine for a campervan but is very very small compared to the boxes on most 18t vehicles. This is why I got it for a good price, the box is far too small to justify using an 18t vehicle for anything but the heaviest loads.
The wall thickness is fairly standard, a guess would be at about 2 inches which is comparable to a fridge vehicle or well insulated motorhome. The difference on this truck is that the thickness is partly comprised of aluminium sheet!
I'm about to start trying to work out what they hell all the solenoids and coms systems do!

I just couldn't stay away.
I must say though that the roadrunner was much better than expected, the engine is a cummins and is really great. It has a slightly agricultural feel but very torquey and considering the gearbox is smaller than most merc cars it had no trouble going up hills in high gears with a full 6.5ton load and a 3 ton trailer. A merc it isn't though.
If anyone wants thr roadrunner it will soon be for sale to be replaced by a rig van which is LEZ compliant.

A rough estimate says I used about 45 litres getting from brum to tottenham which makes it about 13mpg. This is a lot of fuel, no doubt about it, but when I compare it to the trucks I normally drive which are far older it seems great. The roadrunner gets about 16-18 mpg and is only 6.5 tonne GVW, the merc 310d got about 22-25mpg and this was only 3.5t.
I'm a bit scared to run it on veg because of the complex electronic engine mapping but I reckon biodiesel should be fine.

sheesh.. that makes the 25mpg out of the 612d seem positively frugal.. still dithering on what to do about Lez.. thinking of hiring till I sort out what size wagon we can get away with, really reticent to sell the old beast just love the pack space and the tailgate.. heard vague things about the conversion process plus how much ! have a feeling that upgrading the whole engine to a new sprinter donkey might be the clue..

some seriously nice rides on here!
Modded E30 M3, V6 Mondeo and scooby caught my eye. To the bloke with the M3, maximum respect! That's a mint looking ride.
@ Mondeo owner, why doesn't your mate get the limiter taken off his scooby? Would make things more interesting, plus he should really be eating you off the line, unless he's not launching hard enough trying to save the clutch.
Lovin that fireblade too...
I want a golf GTI when I grow up. Or a seat Leon Cupra, or an Audi s3. Makes no odds, they're all the same car.

We've hired a fair bit in between vehicles but owning a vehicle saves us massive amounts of cash.
The trouble with my rig is the weight; I can get it all in a 3.5t box/luton but not without being overloaded and I vowed never to do the whole overloaded box van thing again. I don't mind doing it to hire vans but not to something that I own.
I would love a merc vario but to get one that is LEZ compliant is well out of the price I will pay for a rig van.
I'm considering one of the small number of 5/6 ton vans about like the iveco daily or the renault mascott, the daily particularly seems to sell at reasonable prices and the XLWB hi-top 6 tonner is so big that I might even get the rig in without having to get a box/luton type.
Ideal rig van would be a 5/6t crew cab with a box and tail-lift but besides the rarity of such things they go for stupid money.

if you need a new body for this I could prob... put you onto someone that could help?
the lighter the body the more mpg you'll get, and there's plenty of chaps that would buy the old body of you to practice cutting it open?

1991 Saab 9000 2.3T played with to 260bhp and 400lbft of torque. Huge (wasily as big as an 850 estate) and very fast. Great for carting speakers and disco gear around in comfort. Might have to get a trailer soon though, if I keep on buying speakers.
