Subject: 1850 based system, top end?

Hi I am going to build a system with 4 1850's each side, I am going to use 4 Wharfedale MP-2800's to power them, and need suggestions about what sort of tops to use. I am going to use these for both live sound reinforcement, and also dance music including D&B. I have read other posts, and they advise that the MT122 is about right, however I have concerns about the top end not being up to the job, and am a bit reluctant to go 4 way. I also would appreciate any suggestions anyone may have as how many I would need per side in order to keep up with a stack of 4 1850's, cheers guys.

         -4 186 +4 hd15+2 mt 102 (better solution for modulability )
or      - 4 1850 +2 mt122   for dance.(not so good in live)

nonono hd15 and 1850 do a similar range, not enough difference to make them realy worth delibrately building as a combo.
xtro is an option but youd need to think about placement and splaying.
kick cabs are a good idea with the 186/1850 if you ever want to play tekno or anything kick driven to be honest.

I have spoken with a good friend, and he thinks that 6 x 1850's per side would be better with 2 x decent 1 x 12" driver + 1.5" Compression driver loaded cab combo's for the tops, would that be enough mid and treble?

maybey, for live work maybey double 12" [2 per side] would be better, a little more in the 200hz<800hz lower vocal range if you get me, like the mt122 or a porn with two 12" porn mf sections and 1 1.4" [I think} hf sections, job done, two per side and 6 1850 horns per side would cetainly rock some of the larger out door events with a fair sized crowd for any music to be honest,

So you recon that the MT112 (2 per side) would be a good choice, what do you think about components for these, use the recomeneded ones? or go with a slightly smaller diameter comp driver to reach the higher end of the spectrum? I don't really want to go for porn horns, mainly because I can imagine that the horn/driver combination would cost an absolute fortune (it would be 8 in total). If I were to bite the bullet, and go for a four way stack (1850-Bass, MT122-Mid-Mid top, and then either a stand alone compression driver or super tweeter for the  very top end) what sort of comp driver/super tweeter should I use? and how many? Thanks for the interset in my predicament by the way.

Oh yeah, thought I should mention, this rig will be used indoors too, I am trying to set a standard for local PA hire (my side line business/hobby), and am hoping to hammer the local competition, I will also be providing 4k of monitors through 8 2x12" + 1" wedges (designs adapted from the H.A.R.D. 212) as I am sick of bands saying "I can't hear anything through my monitor" whilst standing in front of thier cranked up marshall half stack, looking puzzled as I try to explain that their onstage sound is too, but that is a different story.

guitarists who cant hear sweet fa through the monnitors lol. been there, actualy sort of was one of them but not as bad as some, tbh throwing more volume at them never helps to be honest lol.
but yeah a pair of mt122 as of the plan per side would be grat but id be tempted to go 12"+6.5" +1" to get more of the vocals/mid ontop paper and get the heigh end clearer due to the 1".
x-tro is possible 2 per side. not sure if the mids wouldd be loud enough though..... hmmmm.

for play techno...
...  set the 1850 crossover at 100hz  and the hd 15 at 180.from 180 the mt 102..
sound colouration of 1850  from 100-200 isn't the best..

1 x mt121 per 2x1850 is good, the mt121 cab can comfortably meet the 1850's top end.

yes nice set up, but a four way with a proper kick section may be better for cerain types of music.
depends on what you do I suppose!

the 1850 is a one-way bass cab.... plays too low to make a sub-bin worthwhile... too high to make a kick-bin worthwhile...

I think they sound great for techno and the likes.  I'd run two high quality mid tops over 4 1850's.  Porn horns yes but you say that would be pricey.  MT122's would seem like a good choice.... not sure what frequency they play down to but I've heard them in combination with 1850 horns and it sounded very nice indeed.

I seriously doubt you will be disappointed with that combination.

I would go for four 186 with two mt 122 per side.

It depends what drivers you put in the MT122's.  I have 1 pair that are plenty enough for 4x1850's and I also run 2 USB's on top of the 1850's for added punch. used for DnB and bassline it sounds amazing. infact I turn the mt122 amps down a bit as they are too much sometimes.

At what freq do you cut your 1850's and USB's. You are right ive got a pair of enclosure pretty similar to MT 122 with dual P Audio 500 watts mid and a 2" throat P audio hi and the ratio is 1 is two four 186.
