Hi all, this night an idea explode in my mind. Why don't we create a simulation database for hornresp (and akabak and winisd as well) ? Some people do the same for hd15 check this thread http://www.speakerplans.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2617 I mean only the horn specs not the driver, I think it could be so useful for all the builders. The
hd15 sims thread it's great but I think is not so reliable, putting the
screenshot of data window take so much space, it's better raw text, it's only a cut & paste frome hornresp.dat ;)
What do you think about it?

I would add a few of myne but looking at urs compared to myne im not so sure ive quite got this all worked out properly yet, horn length is my main problem here, does it start from the throat or the driver?
|
Posted By: bitzo
Date Posted: 21 May 2008 at 4:04pm
this is the main trouble! I start measuring horn lenght from the end of the driver, the front of the driver is the compression chamber. But, if there's a letter box throat I start measuring from the middle of the areas of the letter box. I use datainf measure software and inkscape for the measurement.

Thought these should be in here:
X1 bandpass cabinet
measurements taken from the plans on the main site.
Front chamber tuned lower:
S1=684
S2=684
con=43.50
vrc=62
lrc=50.40
ap=684
lpt=26
vtc=189000
atc=2520
Front chamber higher tuned:
S1=684
S2=684
con=26
lrc=50.40
ap=684
lpt=43.50
vtc=62000
atc=2520 IMPORTANT: As with all ported things, when you simulate this, at the SPL response page, you have to select combined response from the drop down menu (Tools) and set it to zero. Also, port lengths are physical, in reality due to the X1 being on the floor and end correction, the X1 will go a bit lower than it seems. Check with Rog's graphs on the plans and when the ports are the right length, they should look about the same (model and graph).

But what's wrong with wanting to replace a blown driver in an AB-36 you already own with a different driver, say a PAudio SD18, but you want to model it's response to see how well it would work first... I believe the whole copyright issue is to prevent people from making money off a patented design. Once your product is out, there's nothing stopping anyone from taking a tape measure to the insides and simulating a response... I'm sure many aspects of QSC's amps are patented, but they make repair schematics available on their website.

when cerwin vega release its plans on its site, I'll post the simulation...however you can find the plans on the net and you can try to do the simulation by yourself. It's not harder, I use inkscape openoffice calc to get the data from the plans, free tool you have only to try mate :)

When I create a sim for plans, I like to unfold the horn on paper or on CAD. You have to approximate the bends.

The search will be improved as soon as i have time. Users will be able to search every field in the database. For example all designs that go down to some frequency etc.
I'm afraid that thielesmall.com doesn't have any kind of API that i could use to access their database. I'll contact them and ask.
Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, would be good mykey, the Lab does graph does look pretty impressive when theres 4.

I was always under the impression that a simulation isn't always accurate to real world measurements, so whilst we can see that the LAB measures closely to the sims, it's not yet known if the DEMO1 does unless you've got some real measurements done yet mykey?
Looks to be an utter beast of a sub if it does though!

Hi toast
my ears never lie, when you design a cab that gets you up in the morning just to go and play different tracks through it, you know its a winner
it chucks Heep's of sub at you

Looks great mykey.. what are the dimensions?
I like large format horns... still don't understand how Rog is gettin 147db with a quad stack..
|
Posted By: mykey
Date Posted: 18 January 2009 at 4:30am
quad stack of staceys would be 8 drivers
is that the cab you are talking about?
2 ft high 4ft deep 4ft wide, 10 ft horn
the only way to describe the sound is a hifi reflex low, amplified by a 10ft horn

With my limited skills i can get 146db with 32Hz f3 with 4 x 850litre enclosure, Rog has managed 147db with 29Hz f3 with 4 x 600 litre.

try puting 4800 watts into the sim like the above link
you may find you get more than 146
I'll try it into the Demo1

post the plans if it's not copyrighted yet. However you can obtain the paramaters by yourself. It's easy to learn how do that.

isn't this question wrong?
don't you mean you want to see a spl graph, the outcome of the cabinet for a given driver?
the parameters you can get from the driver manufacturer
