Back in my youth I remember that nearly every place in Brum had a system installed by Hocken Sound. I think they were based in Stirchley opposite the Bowling Alley.

I did a gig at a working men,s club in Dudley the other week and lo and behold Hocken Sound twin 12" cabs everywhere!!!

I look after the sound for a tina turner tribute artist, sat 21st we were in the austin social in longbridge area of brum, hocken sound cabs in there! Recessed into the walls with wooden surrounds, Looking exactly like Bose 802's but had gold Hocken Sound lettering between the ports. Rebadges? Or did Bose copy them?

It was proper phoenix nights stylee! lot of families with little kids, a raffle, Tina (aka Nova), Cher and Amy Winehouse (both aka Laura) rocking it out to backing off a slightly temperamental minidisc. Committee all cheery Brummies in green blazers running tings.
Sound wise well...it was nice and clear for their voices, but underpowered and there weren't any bass bins so it kind of stopped at about 150hz. 8 cabs spread around the room in 2 zones of 2 and a zone of 4, running off old Peavey amps which were just flat out the whole time. I was pretty using the DDT function as a vocal compressor. We brought a wee HK Actor 15" bass bin but it didn't help much. I had a great time....working in the academy with the vi6 and the nexo geo d just isn't the same :(

oh and stage boxes with 1/4" jack inputs? Mmmm, semi-pro. And no-one could make the lights work. Classic :)

I remember Hocken Sound in Stirchley. I use to live down Dogpool Lane about twenty to thirty years ago & they had a showroom on Pershore rd.
Those days when i first started out in the sound system tings everytime i passed that shop i had to look  in the windows wishing i had the money to buy a set of speakers or an amplifier.
Don,t know if you remember Jungleman Sound or Jungle Hi-power ! If i,m not mistaken when they finished with the big sound system they had a party set & they called it Jungle hi-fi. I stand to be corrected but i,m sure that,s where they brought it from.
Brings water to my eyes !

Can't think of an immediate use but I'm sure that it would be perfect for someone, looks to be a 4 input preamp.
