I intend to build about 4 subs for playing halls of various sizes from small to medium. Lab 12 drivers are a bit costly, so don't know about that box. I am looking at either 2x18 Horn loaded subs, 1x18 Super scoops, or worst case scenario 2x18 G Sub. Someone has recommended just buying ASS scoops with B&C drivers, but I think a good 2x18" horn will have more grunt below 45hz, and be more cost effective.
Has anyone got plans for/heard OHM BR218 ? Thanks in Advance.

What is your desired frequency response? What is your budget? Would it be a stack of 4 or 2 a side? Cheers |

Desired Freq response would be 40 to 80 Hz at approx 100db, dropping below 40hz with multiple bins per stack. For drivers I would stretch to best price I could get for FANE XB,RCF LP1800 or B&C. Power handling would need to be at least 1.2kW RMS per bin. I want to start off with two stacks(one sub per stack e.g smaller venues), and progressing to 2,4 subs per stack later. So subs have to be efficient.

Looks good on paper, but have'nt heard much about these drivers being used wide spread. So'll think I still stick to designs around FANE XB, Emin Kilomax Pro, RCF or B&C. |

Eminence Kilomax 18 is a piece of sh*t, and is only suitable for a very large reflex enclosure.

why not try to simulate other drivers in that horn, and see wich works best. Have heard this before, but recently saw an advert on some US used PA website selling a pair of EV MTL2's with Emin Kilo 18's. Was this just an el cheapo replacement job? Are the MTL2's any good? What drivers do they normally ship with ? Can they be.. ahem.. "privately constructed" ? Regards.. |

If you want to do a simple double 18 box just use the 200ltr design on the fane website and double it, make sure that each driver is in its own enclosure for best results, you will easily get bass down to 35hz with a couple of db lift on your graphic or processorand 35hz to give a smooth response, if you are going to use fane in horns use the 18b600 rather than the xb, and unless you are doing 1500 plus venues 2 or 4 of these double eighteens with aorund 2k of power per cab and crossed and 35hz and 100hz will give you more than enough bottom end. ------------- sound designs for sound individuals |

I really don't want to use reflex boxes. for very small play outs like house parties, and back garden barbecues yes, I will be building 2x15 reflexes. But for halls of any kind I will either be building 2x18 horn loaded/Bandpass or buying second hand MTL2's/ohm BR218 or similiar. Absolute last option is to buy/build Lab 12's. Unless the guru's here show me the errors of my ways and enlighten me that is...  |

We use 4 MTL-2s. They usually come with the EV DL18MT 400watt drivers, but there is also a 1000w driver available for them. They dont play that low, and dont produce much sound in singles, but if you stack more than 2 per side then they start to party. |

I don't really notice lower extenstion. With 1 cab per side you will get a nice sound anyway, but if you stack 2 or more up, you start to feel the sound aswell as hear it. |
