Should be getting some in from PD to test what they sound like in various cabs.
Did a re once on a Fane XB, quality of the cone kit was better than a cone kit from a apd186, and the right adeshives were used in the right places, on the whole it was a goo chassis to re cone.
They even use a aluminium lined inside the voice coil for thermal efficiency.

98db and 27Hz, thats looking pretty good
anything as low as 27 you would think the sensitivity would follow
do us a favour champ, when you recieve it, tap the cone in the center between dustcap and outer rim, and tell us if you here low thud or a fast hard sound, also from underneath with the tip of your finger?

Theyve been available to the public for a while now so anybody actually used them?

The new generation Colossus 18-1000 watt AES high output sub bass driver makes its debut after a great deal of anticipation. The driver incorporates advanced thermal management in the form of a vented die cast chassis and motor system using an internal heat sink coupled with increased motor system and voice coil venting. This removes heat from the voice coil and results in extremely low power compression. This is sure to become a favourite for customers looking for extreme bass in ported enclosures.

What iv found is the bass is more controled and has more linear, sound, slight more quality. A Fane XB600 on Steroids.
Compared to the PD186 which just chucks buckets loads of bass at you and sound that bit sweeter on the bottom end. i will be interesting the new PD186 driver coming soon. which will have improved cooling and plating issues .
Overall the XB1000 can take masses of power , yet it remains sensible. Abit Pricey on the whole.
id give it 7.5/10

It no way near the Turbomax, it keeps its classic XB sound but having more power handling and better dottom end. Should be interesting in narrow or small chamber scoops, i.e Super scooper. The new Fanes also have a Xmax of 12.75mm compared to the 600XB which has 7.2mm !

Just to let everyone know..Fane have developed a NEW 1200 version, which is in the same leauge as PD.1850, Void vs.1200 /1000, Turbomax 1200......From what iv heard it out performs the PD.1850 in quality and power.
I shall have them next...best part is they cost now where near the 1850, void and turbomax.
And to set the record straight it is not a rip off design of the turbomax technology.
At a first glance alot of peolples thoughts about the Fane 1000 driver is a copy of the Turbomax 900. But its not in the same group as them.

Yes from what he tells me.. .. .. 1850 orders are being reduced .. ..inorder to keep up production and competitions. Fane units and PD units like i said in this post at the begining are will have new drivers to keep up with the likes of, Void, Turbomax, B&C, 18-sound.
The price on this new XB1200 is cheaper than a 1850, void and Turbomax.
Should be getting a few by the end of the week. If put up some info.

Tek buddy...
1850 is an old dog now....sales orders are down...new drivers are out on the market. So from a business point of view, you must be infocus on future plans.
This new XB1200 drivers, plays dub, dance, and RnB music very musically with a heavy bottom end, ....but i will let me ears be the judge of that.

I agree & understand Champ!
1850's have always been too pricey, so not surprised sales are down, with all the new developments arising!
From a business point of view & being in focus on future plans of course it's all good, but so long as they can deliver the performance! Many come, & many go & pass on.
This XB1200 will have to very good as PD1850's ain't no push over!
Hope yourself & Marvin come back with some uplifting results!

Tek... you know the 1850 has a grunty mean bottm end, what its know for...but its not musical or efficient. its time to improve all that.
that pic above Cross section....same voice coil spider assembly double layer, not sandwhiched togther... with improved coil, copper cladded aluminium, reducing weight and improving efficiency. and having more of a open cooling vent on the magnet.

Yes the 1850 is not the most musical of speakers.
And it takes 600w to get it moving. But IMHO @600W+, its the most efficient 5" VC 18" out there.
If you want really musical and flat response, Bline 800, V18-1200 sound so nice in right cabs (Have'nt really blasted Turbomax 1000 in right scoop yet). If you want Hooligan sub SPL, PD1850, V18-1000 and Turbomax 1200 with enough power.
But looks like Mark@Fane did listen to some of my suggestions, and the new Fane 1000 parameters make it less of an eminence speaker, and more of a FANE.
If the driver plays as well as the specs sound, it will be much more muscial than PD1850 and V18-1000, but wont take the power they can, and wont fit into a lot of folded horns.
However it should wipe out Bline 800, TBX100, Fane XB, Volts, PD186. Should also play nicely in reflex, scoops and Folded horns with big enough chambers, and sound even better in WSX than V18-1000.

I'm not sure I fully understand whats going on with this new Fane, no where on any of the specs on the links on this thread or the Fane website does it mention a 1200 watt driver.
I have only seen two different sets of specs for the Colossus 18-1000, the latter seems to be a beefed up version with larger magnet.
Why has the original 18-1000 been changed so soon, did it not perform as expected?

Just look at the pictures above, thats definately two different magnet assemblys on the drivers pictured, the bottom one being larger.
Is this for improved performance or just for looks?

Call Fane to confirm all ur Q's The top pic in Mike's post could of been a proto design where the image was taken from.
Iv put 1200W into this fane off 1 5002vz . Sounded very musical, i may try and clipping the Vz and measring at what point the coil goes pop.

Not confusing really.
Have a look back thru this thread, and then the first thread about ths driver a few months ago.
Have a look at the parameters I suggested then, and compare with the parameters of the latest version of this driver.
I have spoken to mailto:Mark@FANE - Mark_O @FANE in the past suggesting he bin the original driver, and update it to reflect more usable parms, equivalent to 18B on stereoids.
Watch what happens in PA scene, when the price drops on this baby to just below £200.

thanks Lev, but as it cleared things up?
In marvin's picture (thanks marv) the magnet looks superb, and bigger than the first picture
but it says the magnet weights are both 97Kg?
sensitivity is still the same 98db and usable frequency is still 27-
resonance is still 32, I suppose they have just rounded it off
Champ, was that in a cabinet, and for how long did you give it 1200? don't clip it, you can blow the best of drivers that way, just keep putting a clean 1200 into it and let us know the outcome?
does look promising, and I'm glad Fane is back on the scene

Champ, do you have any premier scoops to test this in?
Problem is, there are many cabs 1850 cant fit, and this is even deeper!?
I guess we have to compare this with Turbomax 1000 first, to see if its premier league material, the top 4 drivers have been up there quite a while.

CMS HR makes it '8.84E-05'
MMD works out roughly 17% less than MMS
according to the TS............
CMS 9.00E-02 coming out at 8.84E-05
BL 32.71 28.04
MMS 246.97 MMD 107.27
It's ending up with that CLASSIC dip that you get from the 1850

@Champion these new 1200s look "really good", as long they are not priced out of the market.
If the driver plays as the specs look, it should really be up there in the top 4.
Does this one have 5"VC? Looks more like 4" with that efficiency.
