thinking about all the ways i can go ive just invested in some lovley sounding beyma 755nd's  as a thaught exercise and potentialy for practical reasons (depending on how well the 12" section goes up to meet them) im considering a 6" section as well.

practiacaly if the stack gets any taller the hf will have to on the next floor up in some venues so from a 6" on a waveguide would i be able to get away with having the two next to each other horisontaly or am i going to come a croper with massive amounts of interfrence even if i used an 8th order lr crossover?

I don't understand - the 1.4 will more than happily meet any 12" in a horn, a 6" is not needed. Expend your efforts on a high quality 12" horn (read: very loud and very clean) and you'll be laughing.

jolly good, its a mix of paranoia about the hf capabilitys of the 12"s

(weve had some strange sound occuring during nights, though admitedly its only been when weve just had a few boxes and amps hired for semi link up type affairs rather than putting our rig in)

the inability to do a good job of phase pluging them without a whole heap of effort (and redesiginging the internals of the mt12" flare seems a bit blasphemous considering the following its gathered) and a desire to avoid any clanging distortion from the metal in the compression driver that got me thinking along theese lines.

Don't bother with redesigning if you want to go the whole hog. Start from specs and scratch.

What is your current xover point?

dependant on set up realy as weve only just baught the comps in weve not had a chance to fiddle properly last time they were used some 2" comps and crossed over around 700Hz irrc and have been used straight to peizo cant rmember where we ended up crossing over but that was an unpaid gig so im going to try and forget how it sounded and move on Disapprove the beymas on their horns unload at 800 so id be looking at around 1K at a guess.

Try different slopes and XOs 800-1K, comps are very perfect phase plugged drivers. Have fun!

Yep, try to forget. One really never gets anything set up ideally as wanted...

Have you built anything then sks?

I was considering going down the same route, having a 6.5" driver next to a comp.
Is this worth it or not, will it benefit the sound in anyway?
I'd ideally like to get up as high as i can go with the comp, so thought that maybe a comp that plays higher and less low, then a 6" for where the comp stops.

Opinions?

Peace

after hearing the 755's working with th twelves it seemed a bit surplus to requirements depends on the compression driver your looking at, as it seems i constantly do my thaughts on whats best to use has changed as ive got the compression drivers im now looking at porn horns, first thing will be to buy some of the compression drivers horn and test that compared to the ones i have to see if i can hear much difference

Is there any info or anything regarding compression drivers, and the horns?

Theres sh*tloads of info on 18" bass drivers, and lots of simulations of different drivers in cabinets, yet ive not really seen much on comps.

Can you use akabak to sim HF? not that ive tried it yet...

You can apparently, I saw it somewhere in the guide.

The important thing to understand is that CDs are still drivers, they have T/S and everything.

The only difference is that with a CD, you have a premade phase plug, rear chamber, compression ratio, etc.

The exit of the comp (confusingly called the throat) is not the throat of the actual horn (compression starts in the driver), but actually bit after the phase plug (the comp may also continue with a plane wave tube or something). Logically, some honrs and CDs were matched fro correct expansion (see vitavox and others) but nowadays with diffraction slot based horns this isn't the trend anymore.

Cool, sounds like a bit of a mission, but definitley can be done.

Then again, it is probably best to just stick to the original specification as its just MTs rather than my own design... Will save me the time/effort and will probably sound better anyway.

While on the subject, the MT122 lists std. and neo. 12" drivers, and std. and neo HF drivers. Should you use both neo or both standard, or is one neo and one standard ok?
Peace

Actually again while on the subject, anyone know any particular threads with info about comp drivers? I know the basic stuff bout how they work, but anything up from that...
Difference in 1 and 2 inch etc?
Thanks

one thing worth noting is that whilst going for a 3 way mid top should in theory for PA applications give you a much better approximation of the original signal getting the drivers to give you good cohesion in terms of dispersion max spl and phase is a headache out of the time frame most diy designers may fancy spending time on.

im thinking about finishing the 6" design ive got off or doing something akin to an xtro flare with a phase plug straight to a 1.4 or 2" covering 80Hz or so up though getting the dispersion right on that is going to be a killer if i do try it.
