does anyone make them? When I go to the blueprint for such a cab on this site, there's a link to readymade cabs, but the link is down. building these things looks like more than I can handle... I did find a guy who can make all the angled cuts for me, but he charges way too much per hour to the pont where it seems pointless to try to build such a cab vs. just buying a folded horn. I'm in the U.S., btw. Please post or pm if you build 1850's (or other subwoofer cabinets) |

Since speakerplans.com has put a link to our site we have been constantly asked if we know of cabinet builders who can supply ready made 1850 horns. We already supply large amounts of drivers to people who build 1850 horns so we thought it was time to get a license from speakerplans.com and go into manufacture of the awesome 1850 horn. Our version is called the Looney Bin and is a modified design of the 1850 horn which goes slightly lower and has 3 dB more output. The design modifications were carried out by Rog Mogale himself and even he is proud of the extra output and more refined sound this new version gives. The higher output and other improvements are possible because of a new range of drivers made by Void Acoustics. Rog Mogale's links with Void Acoustics meant that a new driver could be built just for the Looney Bin. Rog says that the PD 1850 whilst still an awesome driver always did sound a bit hard in the 1850 horn. You also needed to have over 1000 watts per driver available to get the high output levels the PD 1850 is capable of. The new Void drivers are much more efficient and play at the same output levels as the PD 1850 but with lower power levels most people use. But when you do start to use lots of power then because of their efficiency the Void drivers produce unheard of output levels from the Looney Bin. The Void Acoustics drivers are also extremely reliable as they are hand built for Void by a very well known and respected manufacturer. Each cabinet comes loaded with a 1000 watt 18" driver. The driver has a 5" coil, double spider and a 288 mm diameter magnet. The cabinet comes complete with four metal bar handles, four swivel wheels and a very durable dark red epoxy finish. The cabinets are fully rebated and CNC manufactured. Each cabinet is constructed from top quality 18 mm Scandinavian birch plywood. Unfortunately the price of the Looney Bin has had to increase due to higher than anticipated production costs.
