'pub disco rig' - cheap nasty spinmaster1 lights, bit of UV and a laser, is pants but looks alright and does the job. made me a lot of return these lights.
old bigger rig, sold the vr8r's for moving heads, lil minimac in the centre (other 2 at the time both had dead ignitors ), scaff towers truss etc are still kicking about

One of my pride and joy, but very very old vari*lite vl2c heads - ex pink floyd, prince, genesis etc, these heads were the first proper reliable, powerful moving heads built in my opinion ( there were movers before these, but these were really the one to start the lighting revolution)
built originally in 1986, upgraded in 1992 to a higher spec, and still just about going today!
more pics later

You have an early wing there Norty! - the new littlelites are a godsend - the original ones are great at blinding you dont you think?
Im very tempted by a HP 22" touchscreen pc at the moment - would finish the maxiwing off nicely...saving up to do i think

Yep, think I'll be investing in oneof the new gooseneck lights if the price isn't extortionate :)
I think I'd go for another 15" screen if needed. As you can see, the playback legends line up perfectly over the physical playbacks on the wing.
That said, when i said my fav piece of gear, i meant the Stella.....

I know what you are saying about lining up the playbacks with the screen, but im already using a 20" tft, with no probs in that area
Im thinking that a 22" touch screen will work well with the display in normal rather than touch mode. Im not a fan of touch mode, i really dont like the layout.
Have you had any probs with the wing power supply? Im on my third chamsys one now, they keep replacing them for free, but im carrying a spare now as i dont have a lot of faith in them.
I wonder when chamsys are bringing out their matching dmx controlled beer fridge?

That's interesting to know. Any one else had this problem, is it just the wings or are the desks effected as well???
LOVE the VL rig pics , I know newer light are smaller, weigh less, do more and all that, but I am still into the old movers. I also love the old Golden Scans & Cyberlights, no one seems to do, or have come out with a really good moving mirror unit for a while (Big style, not little VR8 & disco style).

Re: Chamsys wing psu's
I had a wing PSU die on me in December, thankfully had a spare onsite
(the company who supplied the kit have had the problems before with them..).
The actual desks are based on a PC so they are PC type PSU's inside, not the walwarts the wings come with... so not a problem that plauges them.
Cheers
Matt

the first one ( on my original pc wing) died with a soft pop and a bit of smoke from the wall wort - i replaced it with a maplins 2.5A 12v supply and that was good as gold for over a year
when i got the maxi wing, i reverted back to using the supplied supply as the maxi wing has an unusual power connector
half way thu plotting the lighting for a televised advertising awards thingy in december, it simply stopped working. Fortunately, i had been to maplins to get a spare beforehand, so 5 mins with a soldering iron to swap out the connector, and i had the wing back up.
I spoke to Matt @ chamsys who was very helpful, but said they had not had any reported problems. He sent me 2 new ones in the post as replacements.
Preacher - you are right about some of the old movers. the old vl's are a right pain in the backside to keep running, and spares are more or less non existant. But when they work, i still prefer what comes out the front to almost anything else - in particular the colour pallate which is superb
on the size and weight thing, well, being a 600w head, they are actually very light as they are completely aluminimum, and have switch mode ballasts. they weigh a good deal less than a mac500 say
old clay pakys are great too arnt they Liteworks..

The truss is fixed down to the dance floor. The type of design means you can screw on the crosssection to secure it. We also put a 18mm sheet of ply under the dance floor so it fixes to that as well. The end of the truss is completely flat so base plates aren't needed.

i really enjoy these over budgeted parties people have. I did an 18th once under a super huge circus bigtop, had dodgems, a giant bouncey castle, big inflated slide thing, bucking bronco ride all on one side, then an 8x6m stage, 14k of nexo alphaE, then for lighting i put an 8 x 8m truss cube up 4m above the 'dancefloor' with 4x atomic3k's, 8x minimacs, 4x goldenscans, and 12 par56's along the stage side for stage lighting, 4x vr8r's along the rear of the stage, all controlled off an avolite pearl. 2bands which i manned the desk for, then 6hours of dj's which i just left it on chases and had some cider . didnt have a cam with me for this, still trying to get pics of the event, was probably the best job ive ever done!!

LJ is great for dj type installs, we got it because of the range of experise over the crew and management, its completely foolproof. turn on PC, its fullscreen loads straight away. On it we have pages of chases scenes and shows. Anyone can just start clicking and have a sound active lightshow straight away.
wouldnt recommend it for anything 'live' however, as it only allows you too use cues and buttons already programmed. also the GUI isnt optomised for multiple quick adjustments. I think for live bands/manually cued sync lighting you need a dedicated human interface board, like a chamsys wing or a proper lighting desk.

the stageing company missed out the truss section that was to take the the weight of the mac 500s and the 250s along the middle , but it was safe i can tell you that much wouldn't of put the fixtures up if i knew it wasn't safe
i do use truss when nessary but on that day i didn't have any to use that would be stronger than the 2 scaff bars on each fixture it wasn't bending that much ,

gota love those goldenscans!!! shame we have no vintage lighting section, i have a few similarily oldschool lights, built to last, and still outperform many modern lights.
not a fan of the moving head bandwagon everyones jumped onto, rarely see them doing pan and tilts which a scanner couldnt do, with scanners moving much much quicker, and much cheaper.
like the way you rigged the goldenscans, simple but i bet looked pretty darn good. also, can never have enough atomics (ALWAYS on full power )

haha... we took 10 goldenscans with us to the gig.... trashed 1, the insides dropped out somehow when we were putting it up... the 2nd one was missing some colour diachroics, rattling around inside it somewhere... and a 3rd one, had a sticking fan, so one of the guys started to tap it a bit to get the fan to move better.. and ended up knocking sometthing inside it causing it to trip the whole 125amp 3phase supply out.... not too good... quite lucky we had them all there....
im just searching thru some of the pics i have from various gigs...

Are they the LEDJ Blockbuster 6? Any pics of videos of them in action or general comments on them? I have to say they look larger than i would have expected.

i think they are the blockbuster 12s.. from the top of my head.... theyre very good when the pearl works with them.... and you also have to have them plugged into the lighting controller before you turn them on or they set themselves to standalone mode... and when theyre on a flown rig, that gets a bit tricky!

Do you have a link to any info? The prolight site has no info on them and google doesn't turn anything up either.

wasnt that impressed with the strips before but with haze look very effective. and they travel in a box the same size as a cymbal case - gone out with ash for 2 weeks as the LD can put them under his bunk... result...

ahhhh so its you who hires out to john!!
I didnt really like the LED's, not a very good resolution on them when colour changing or flicking through colours. Could have been rushed programming, who knows!? I know time was a little tight.
Otherwise was a great show i thought, john did some great cueing to the songs, and the sound (nexo alpha) was superb. Made me become a fan of turner, saw him over the festivals and wasnt that impressed - combo of lame arrays and interesting cockups from the band.

during soundchecks
front bar profiles were most usefull!!
PA raised of floor to help stop the wooden floor resonance issues, as well as to raise the topend up a bit more

what do you mean by resolution they are chroma strips single led strips of course they aint gonna be good resolution - but the come in a small box and give a good result.
Might have been a combination of time or kit but I Know John adn the gigs he does and as a cost effective option of making a dull gig look a bit better I think they give a good result.
well they are out for 2 weeks with Ash so they are doing something right....

motorhead still love parcans, lots of parcans!!! must have been ~200 of the things, looked cool however. shame the sound was pavillions, but its alright, vocals are overrated anyway!

hello el chupacabra,
can i rent this for fathers wedding disco in Nigeria? I place on dancefloor with colours and everyone will have a great time. I just need you to send me £1000 asap so i can sort out shipping and container for it, then i pay you £10,000 for a weeks hire. Let me know soon, its matter of urgency. Yours gratefully, lord ginge of the southern army of nigeria.
On a slightly more serious note, isnt that a little overkill for a residental driveway floodlight? I find the 150w £4 things from homebase just about right
