So I've found that speakerstore, the place where the punnisher lives, houses some other interesting designs. One that caught my eye as I was looking to find a loving home for my sweet new quartet of 18sound 18lf1400 was the "Module-Horn"designed by the same pair also responcible for the legendary Punisher horn. Anyone else looked into this crazy new concept? What's this puppy do in simulation? Anyone built some?
Go to 'Speakerstore.nl' then hit 'constructions' then find 'module-horn' on list. Sorry can't cut n paste right now.

Quite similar to a scoop layout but with a sealed chamber. how do they join the 2 cabs? only with 2 strings?

It will be a very nice sounding cab. The 'modules' are held together by their weight and a ratchet strap.
I imagine they'd be great for a system where efficiency is more important than things like size and weight.

Rachett straps are in the design but I was thinking of a set of lids for storage and transit with opposite genders on recessed latches such as the ones used in gig racks n cases. Anyone think they'd hold up to the vibes?

I was thinking the same when I was looking into this. I also thought of routing a small groove with silicon sealant in all the way round the edge between where the modules seal together. It'd compress to give an airtight seal when you put them together. It'd wear out yeah, but it wouldn't be visible when stacked and could easily by re applied every few months.

With a bit of thought during construction, the two halves could be fastened together with locating lugs or strips and heavy duty flightcase butterfly catches.

Might want to search for the thread about Rog's monster scoops which were in 2 sections. There was quite a lot of discussion about joining methods in there...
Edit: the Rubic Horn, worth looking if only for the costume

How'd y'all know I drive me a truck?
I've got D-bag cloths of my own, thx... Maybe when (and if) I finish the cabs, I'll get a shot of my amazing DIY 'blown up' jeans featuring 70 inch cuffs. Ahhh, the rediculous 90's Rave scene.
I think I'll try adding a lip bisecting the joining surfaces w neoprene material between and twist locks to hold em together. I wonder if King Rog (respectfully) would be willing to divuldge which brand of lock he found that doesn't rattle ones brains to pieces as I suspect most would.

Can anybody input these plans in Hornresp? Can the throat and sealed chamber be modified to fit a 15? I assume that it would not be as efficient but should still have the effortless 35Hz?

I really need to sit down n learn hornresp. I so wish I had a graph of theese guys with the reccomended. 18sound 18lf1400 in em. Now my stupider question is...
If the horn resonates down to 35hz when laired and lower when I build all 4 of em, won't the depth be stopped by my driver's 31hz resonant peak? I mean one IS supposed to cut it just above the RP right?

darkmatter- where did you take the throat? or where do you reckon it should be? i've been thinking about building a pair of these, possibly modded for a v18 1000. might have a play about with this today.

i've calculated the rear chamber to be very very close to 120l, my mac is behaving like a twat though and i can't seem to download pdfs properly, can anyone tell me how much volume the driver takes up?

my 105 was a rough estimate based on 119.5 minus driver and handles volume.
start of the throat was guessed by eye, as was horn length, Vtc, Atc at least it got the ball rolling hehe

i'm taking s1 to be the vertical distance on the first fold from the driver- there being no corner piece right of there to extend the horn and bring Vtc down. whaddya reckon?
having an mare calculating Vtc though... if you (or any other helpful person) can riddle me this it would get us there much quicker. my various sine/cosine rule manipulations have given me a headache and are producing results which don't match the plan...
anyways:
we have an irregular quadrilateral, with angles: A=78, B=99, C=159, D=24. side AB=154mm and AD=520mm.
what is the area of quadrilateral ABCD?
i'm off to make lunch

be careful if you're going to build something like this
the energy levels are very high, especially with a horn that size
so expect some rattling, unless you BOLT them together, and after a few gig's you'll get tired of it

just so everyone else can have a play, the data i got was:
Vrc = 120L - volume of driver Vtc = 38L S1 = 670cm^2 con = 77cm S2 = 1290cm^2 exp = 91cm S3 = 2655cm^2 exp2(or L34 or whatever it's called) = 69cm S4 = 4585cm^2
sorry i can't post pics, i think i may have screwed up the length of the horn- it may be a bit longer and i can't help feeling that the mouth could have made more use of the front footprint? the lack of a "corner piece" at the first fold theoretically shortens the horn and increases Vtc quite a bit, perhaps it'd be worth playing with that too. finally, as i'm on a sh*te pooter i couldn't get the thiele/small for the recommended driver and the void gave a very lumpy response. even if it does look like it's worth playing with.

Haha I've just realized that the triangle in the bottom box isn't part of the horn, ignore my measurements then lol.
I was thinking it was a bit odd that the horn path would enter the second box so soon, I should've known better than to think that Walt wouldn't have thought of this!

That'll be the driver's free air resonance. If you stick a horn in front of it, that's a lot of air, all of which has mass. If you imagine glueing weights to the cone, that would bring its Fs down.
The same thing should happen with the mass of air in a horn, so the Fs of the driver will effectively be lower than 31Hz.

some people don't just want a free lunch but breakfast, dinner and a bloody midnight snack.
When do we get the plans for the Tits 'n' Arse System then?

Alright b!tches,
i guess i was confused thinking this was 'speakerplans.com' as opposed to the clearly implyed 'myspeakerplanisbetterthanyours.fu' guess i'll not be making that mistake again. you guys rock like yani.
anywho,
i do like the idea of the vented horn but from what i can tell, the reccomended driver is quite diferent from what ive got. i think the 186 is best for me right now as theres a tasty bit on that forum with such interaction and it doesnt look too far over my head.
and I'll be keeping my tobakey THANX!

fubard don't get angry because of this.....I agree with you there are few forum member from you could learn. I guess so much people search who have/build/designed the best cab, but IMHO I have to search how...not who. good luck for other thread

Hello guys,
This M-horn is quite an old design, way before the Punisher was designed. Using a stack of 3 Punishers is about the same size as one full M-horn and will give up to 10dB higher maximum output.
So far I know only very few people build a M-horn, nobody seems to have the perfect solutions for coupling both modules.
If you are very limited on the money I still think it is a good idea to buy one good driver (this can be 18" or 12" doesn't really matter) and build a horn for it as big as possible.
However, for the same bulk multiple Punishers will be louder, this is because bigger power handling. As can be read in csg's Punisher construction topic a stack of Punishers goes low enough for most applications.
Best regards,
Walt
