hi y'all

Im extending my rig (currently 2 stacks of JBL, each 18W, 15 horn, 2x12, 2+2 bullet powered by 5k of crest) with an extra pair of 12 or 15+1 cabs with the idea of using them to produce spacial information and FX. The current plan is to build a simple decoder (something ala hafler probably - combine out of phase L+R signals and use result with a c20ms delay for rear left and (probably 180 degrees out of phase) rear right)

Im also planning a controller to move a mono source anywhere spatially within the mix (current thinking is to use 2xVCA balance circuits controlled by 2 faders mounted at 90 degrees one above the other with the whole assembly mounted on runners to allow free movement L-R and front-back simultaneously - difficult to explain what I mean clearly but would welcome more elegant ideas)

Im looking to use a 16:4 desk + dj mixer to control it all - with a small patchable FX rack just to further complicate my life

Has anyone tried this sort of thing - any tips would be gratefully received, also if anyone has space in/around london for a slightly unusual chillout (lighting/visual plans are equally convoluted too) then please drop me a line

Ger

It sounds promising. I suggest posting the idea on the ESP forum. A few tronics nuts there.

Sounds good, how about using a chopped up PS2 Analog stick, or do you want it hold the position?

cheers both, I have no immediate preference on the stick holding position (yet) but it should be a pretty cheap way to try the idea out.

Ive been advised that instead of using a hafler circuit Im better off going for a dolby decoder chip which also phase shifts the rear channels back and forward by 90 degrees which is supposed to make them more coherent with the main speakers. Some also have a built in delay which makes that more simple.
