i need some advice on where to position the horn in and X12 type design.
Which way is better?

Like this
Or like this but without the drivers being horn loaded.

What are the benfits to both designs?

Thanks

Ultimately it's down to how you will use the cab.  If you need all the height you can to get the HF above head height, put it at the top.  If that's not a problem then you can put it in the middle and in theory you will get a slightly better integration between the 12's and the horn.

I put my horn at the top because I offset the 12" drivers to reduce the height.

[Ignore the following if you've seen it many times before.....]

It's a case of MTM vs TMM:

The bonus is that when they are coupled (and crossed appropriately) you basically have a point source throughout your freq. range. But there is that xover limit (the drivers have to be in 1/4 WL of each other to couple...)

2) Yeah, but you may find weird noises when they're backed up against somewhere (back ported hifi cabs get retuned against walls I've found). Maybe try corner triangular ports or ports beside the horn. Ports are also sources too, but at that LF, their positioning won't matter as much.

The MMT or MTM configuration will mainly be determined by whether you can get the horn above head height with a 12" above it.

Some thoughts to keep you going there...

Away on extended leave.
