Like i said on the unification quarter finals thread its a shame only one sound could go thru.
Operations marley dubplate tore the place up Clap
I enjoy when two sounds play to the fullness like that, not a bad word said between them just pure heavy n conscious vibes.
BIG UP both sounds & jah works for bringing this dance to the people.

Earthquake had a lot of support on the night operation stood on their own but held their own Trust me, i think if it was on neutral ground the outcome may have been different but one of the best dub clashes i have been to for years vibes were extra special a proper quality session 10/10

Hello People,

This post is dedicated to all the people on this forum working for positivity against the downpresssors, backbiters and bloodsuckers. Let us not get involved with those who waste their time and lives chatting nonsense and lies!

As I said in my last review I must state my affiliation to Operation, but have strived to maintain a neutral tone and provide you all with a quality review.

Again many thanks to Asher and all the Unification Dub Cup family, including stall holders and craft traders, for an uplifting and meaningful experience, much needed in the present times.

On arriving to the venue King Earthquake was already set up with the sound firing, and setting up his merchandise stall, this evening run by his sons. To quote Paulus this was much like a “back a yard” dance, basic facilities provided not in the dancehall itself but in the pub at the front.

Unlike the last round where we initially struggled to get the sound up and running properly, this time even with a small crew we got Operation set up really quickly and smoothly.

This dance was quite different to the last one I attended between Operation and Quadraphonic, this time unfolding slowly as the night went on. Both sound playing a very wide variety of tunes and playing their system different all night. I heard a mixture of Roots, Rub-a-Dub, Digital, Steppers, One drop and more.

On the opening of the judged section the dancehall was busy, with approximately 100 people attending, including system crews. Earthquake seldom strayed from a heavy Steppers path, playing some of his own productions. Many people in the crowd responded well, and some people responded only, to the Steppers selections.

Operation held their corner and played the songs he truly felt in contrast to Earthquake’s predominant to the Steppers vibe. The dance was better for this, allowing the audience to experience a greater variety of music, artists, tempos and styles.

As the judged section progressed and whilst playing their strongest or most loved tunes in both sound played their preamps and pushed the sounds hard.

Operation consistently sounded good with particularly good performance on the vocals in tunes. The one stack setup could be heard well, all the way to the back of the room. The bass sounded low and heavy all night. Operation was pushing the sound later on, but it always felt well within limits and like the stack had more to give.

Earthquake was hitting hard with bass, and the full depth was felt on the last 3 or 4 selections of the judged section, these tunes bringing out the best of the bottom end of the rig. Earthquake was pushing very, very hard at points, the top end getting more than slightly uncomfortable.

Earthquake generally got a better response from the stepping dancers, who obviously felt Eathquake’s 4x4/Steppers selections. Operation really had a deep vibe going at points, the crowd showing their love more through cheering and clapping just after Operation’s selection in the 1-for-1 judged section.

When Operation dropped his own Marley Dubplate the atmosphere was amazing. Not wild and hectic but touching and meaningful with a very warm and felt response from the crowd and a well earned rewind of the tune.

From start to end there was open communication and support, coming from each sound and given to the other. Although a competition this dance was not a clash, but a genuinely friendly meeting between two sounds and two people, who love music and love sharing it even more.

The results of the judging meant Operation was 1 point down on a few categories, but everyone in the dance knew it was a very, very close competition. Although only one sound went through to the next round, I believe I can say there were no losers in this dance.

Look out for the Unification Dub Cup Manchester quarter final on the 22nd of August between Freedom Masses and Megatone Sound Foundation. Unfortunately I cannot attend, but this dance looks set to be a real cracker and I believe, will be filled with the same truly positive vibes as this weekend just gone.

Much respect to all the supporters at this dance, all sound system and sound persons involved in the competition and all people keeping love in their hearts!

Peace
Louis Longshot

So Nick.........

What amps were you using on bass.

Greetings Rog,  I run Crown 5000VZ on my scoops.... The same one i have played for 12 years nowSmile  I have said before that I wouldn't swoop for owt apart from an infinite 8 MII but never had nuff £'s to buy n try one, one day soon maybe.
I can only imagine what would happen coz my set sounds heavy now & i believe your infinite 8 MII to be superior than 5000VZ.
One thing ya could help with tho... would the infinite 8 draw more amps than a 5000vz at 4 & 2.6 Ohm's?

Hi Nick,

I believe the crown 5000VZ is between 70 to 75% efficient around 2.66 and 4 ohms. Thats still good for an amp of its age as many amps around that time could only clam 55% efficiency.

The Infinite 8 V2 is 87% efficient into 4 ohms, so will draw a lot less than the 5000VZ. Or to put it another way, if you still draw the same current the Inf 8 will give you a lot more watts for that current draw.

I worked it out once and I think I'm right in saying that the 5000VZ will draw the same amount of amps doing its 2500 watts per channel into 2 ohms as the Infinite 8 V2 will when its giving out 3800 watts per channel into 2 ohms.

Rog.

Nick, I believe you're pretty close to both myself and Marios from GASH. If you ever wanted to borrow an Infinite 8 Mk2 to try out, I generally have a spare available that you're welcome to A-B test against your Crown.

don't expect any suprises!

The infinate 8 is a more modern design taking advatage of advances in technology since the crown was designed almost 20 years ago. But more the the point the infiniat 8 mk2 is 50% more powerful! The crown doesn't stand a chance and there is no reason for it to.
