Here's a few none system related pics first.

Massive thanks to Bry, Dan and all the Dirt crew.

Void had 5 floats this year and some Stasys bins on a static system. We started setting up on saturday morning.

One of the floats had a film crew that were making the UK's first 3D film. So we had to keep stopping and the director would get everyone into place for the shot.  It also ment we couldn't put a lot of system on the float and had to keep levels right down.

This was Turbosound supplied by SLR. There is always two floats with a radio link playing the same signal.

Rear shot of the Nine Bar system.

A lovely crowd of people infront of this system later on. It always gives everyone a really good time.

The 11am speakerplans turn out. Funny how 100's always say they will turn up but only a few ever do.

The back end of the Punishment float. 8 Stasys 8's were behind the Stasys 3's with a further 8 Stasys X's behind that. The whole setup was and end fed cardoiod setup to increase the level and projection from the back ofthe float. Klye said it right when he said I was teriffied of that float. The mad thing was they were getting readings of 147dB from quite some way from the float and I asked Klye if it was running flat out. He said no and then pushed the master faders up loads more and it got about 3 times louder. Frightening. I've been doing systems at carnival for 20 years and I've never heard anything like that.

This is what happend when the Punishment float drove by.

Some of the amps driving the system. I can count 7 Infinite 8 V2's, do you think thats enough Klye.....

Jah Observer. Not loud and not the best sounding system, but if you want the most authentic roots system this was the one. Some very serious tune connoisseurs present.

Martin Line array. Throw a long way, but was too arggressive to enjoy

A pic of the Punishment float. It was even shaking my eyeballs from this distance.

Setting up another Void float before the scrims went on. another cardiod setup that had Stasys Primes added on the rear.

The Dodgy crew, ha ha.

Most of the time I was drawing around 40 to 60 amps from the genny. Did see 28 amps on an Infinite 8 V2 at one point.

One of the Void floats with the scrims on.

Saw 3 floats with Meyer but all of it sounded offensive and messy. Such a shame as it dosen't have to sound that way.

Stasys 8's under some EAW for the latin street dance system.

Cue Mykey......

Another Void float with the scrims on.

One of the forum members who gave a hand over the weekend. Thank you.

I also noticed how the Meyer systems sounded really irritating. What it is really about is that they really let you hear what is being inserted into the system, or that is what I've been experiencing with Meyers.

Nexo systems sounded pretty much nothing special, same goes with D&B.

36 amps, Monday afternoon for a very, very brief period before we panicked about getting turned off completely

Was only pulling about 13-14 amps at most from each of those Infinite 8s most of the time though. The cardioid setup worked really well, and in fact the amount of bass you heard at different points seemed to match your simulations almost perfectly. The advice was very much appreciated.

We had 7 Infinite 8s but we were only using 4 of them for most of the carnival, ended up with a few as backups. Felt it was best to run all the bass at 2 ohms so that each cabinet was getting the same amount of juice instead of some at 4 ohm and others at 2.

Brilliant photos, but then the camera you were lugging about looked really good! I'm going to get my photos up as soon as I can find the stupid non-standard USB lead for the camera I was using.

On this float, what are the cabs to the left and right of the picture?

I thought at first stasys 3's but they look maybe a bit tall from some of the shots, so is that Prime?  Maybe just the angle of the shot.

Also, they are on top of smaller half height cabs that are also trap and match their dimensions?  Are these some sort of kick bin or small sub i've messed?  Smile

Can you imagine what it must've been like out the back when the amps momentarily drew 36A!!!

So first Rog likes to design speakers such as Stasys range and after that he sadistically takes his pro-quality camera and goes out to portrate the bassfaces and people holding their ears, things caused by his speakers. You sick bastard.

What camera are you using?

Got back home on Tuesday to find I have no internet/broadband, got a few pic's to put up soon as I get back on line (doing this from work). Had a good time, saw a few floats on the Sunday including those terrahorn tings, they are quite nice, saw one Void loaded lorry (a small lorry) have to say it was a bit off when it went past (but that could have been just at that point, or a DJ messing with the mix to much, like we had with spoony and his ragg it to red style). We had issues with stage and power, kind of got sorted, sorry to any peeps who came past to say hello and not finding me, if peeps came past on Monday you would have seen me up on a stack of speakers getting the crowd going!!LOL

One thing I did notice is that pretty much all the DJs were clearly using burned CDs of music they'd downloaded at home. So the quality of the MP3 going through the rig varied so wildly from tune to tune it wasn't worth riding the faders and EQ all weekend to try and put back the stuff that wasn't there in the first place.

God dam electricity on the meter! sat down and wrote a wicked review of the weekend only for the power gods to take it away from me.

Apart from this year being seriously hard work i had an awesome time. Putting simulated stacks into place and achieving the predicted results has given me alot of confidence in sound modeling software.

A big thank you to barney (sub bass) for all his help. will have another go this evening when i have a bit more time

36 amps from 1 inf8????
that's nearly 8.3K and I thought it was rated lower at like 7K??? or can it still peak higher???

wow...

he then complains to me alsoAngry, then I tell the twat to put a BOUGHT cd, and lets listen to the outcomeEmbarrassedEmbarrassed

Not quite 8.3kw, remember no amp is 100% efficient. In fact, because they were all running at 2r a side they would have been 87% efficient.

Posted By: bassmish
Date Posted: 04 September 2009 at 1:48pm
yes but I was under the impression that this was a 7k amp meaning that it can draw 7k max, and if it's running at 90% efficiency then it would still be drawing 7k but only giving 6.3 to the speakers
anyway, 87% of 8.3 is still giving more than 7k to the speakers
so when people have been saying this is 7k amp they're not saying what it draws but its max output after internal losses or whatever, but infact it can do more than this?
I'll just looks at the specs..

Posted By: toastyghost
Date Posted: 04 September 2009 at 2:30pm
Amps are rated by their output at different impedances as standard, not what they draw. Although sometimes the max current draw is presented in the spec sheet as well.

The Infinite 8 Mk2 is rated officially at 3700w per channel at 2r loads, but in bench testing it has put out more than that. Rog likes to give realistic and conservative power ratings it seems.

Drawing 36A, at 87% efficiency on a 230v supply, the amp would be putting out 7203w total which is just below the rated max output.
