Hi all,

After reading the reviews about the 186 horn and MT122 mid/top
we decided to build a single set (2 of each) to hear these ourselves.
2 x MT122 :
- P.Audio SN-12B
- P.Audio SD-750N
- P.Audio PH2380
2 x 186 :
- RCF L18P300 (8 Ohm)

We are driving the speakers with :
- 1 x Behringer EP2500 (2 x L18P300 bridged)
- 1 x Behringer EP2500 (4 x SN-12B stereo)
- 1 x Behringer EP1500 (2 x SD-750N stereo)
- 1 x Behringer DCX2496 processor

I know, it's Behringer, but that's a budget issue.

Now I would like to know the settings I have to make in the processor.
What are the best crossover frequency's ? Low-Mid and Mid-High
Are there any (free) tools I can use to measure the results ?
Any other comments ?

Will post some pics as soon as I make them.

I have a similar set-up...
My MT122s have:
SN12B
Beyma CP800Ti

and my horns are PD1850 with the correct PD drivers

I use a Void Infinte 8 for the bass and either BSS epc780s or QSC RMX2450s for mids and tops with processing through a Behringer DCX2496

I'd suggest a bit of trial and error, but I tend to use 130Hz ish for the bass/mid (L-R 48db/oct) and 1.9Khz mid/top (same slopes)

PS: I'd also say that you need another 2 PD186 horns at least...The MT122s will keep up with at least 2 per side and probably do 4 per side given decent enough amplification.

Blimey!!  They're pretty steep slopes you use.  I only use a 48 butterworth on my hi-pass for the bass.  Do you struggle with running out of processing?

BTW, did you see that photo of us from Saturday?  Clearly from the hand gestures it was taken whilst we were talking about those Ohm TRS212's!!   (Have a look, you'll see what i mean )

Processing power can be in short supply...But I only run the bass in mono off channel 1 (which helps) and channel 4 runs the monitors full-range from input C.

This works fine...with all appropriate delays set, too, but when I use ch 4 for the mid-bass, then it can be in need of some tweaking to get it to work...

And what delays did you use ?
could you give me an example calculation ?

Try a notch early in the stop-band and a boost at the crossover frequency, this buys you extremely high roll-off rates just below crossover and the processors take less resources using EQ than adding higher order filters.

From memory:

The horn path length on the PD1850s is 2m
The horn length of the 12" drivers is 600mm
The horn length of the 2" compression driver is 400mm
The horn length of the Selenium HB1505C1s is 900mm

So the Seleniums are delayed 1100mm
The 12" are delayed 1400mm
The 2" comp driver is delayed 1600mm

Don't hold me to that, I'll need to check to be 100% sure, but it sounds about right

I have done some research on the EP2500, and wouldn't recommend long term 4ohm bridge mode for sub, unless you are intending an unintentional barbecue .  My uses are real sub heavy RNB/dancehall recorded material, so may be more demanding than yours.

If you can afford it, to start with I would recommend 1 EP2500 8 ohm bridge mode/186 horn. E.g £400 for 2x1300 @ 8 ohms. And when you have amassed enough ill gotten gains, upgrade to Void infinite-8.

Any reason for RCF driver over PD186?.. "EVERYONE" I talk to, recommends PD186 in one box or another. And apparently, they sing quite nicely with above Berry setup.

Thanks for the recommendation.
We'll add another EP2500 to the rack.

We went for the RCF because it was the easiest for us to get a hold of.
