Subject: Robe 575XT Gobo issue

Recently one of my XT started giving this problem, when switched ON the gobo and colour wheels are not at the correct position, resulting is half gobo and wrong colour. Resetting the unit does not fix the issue but if I open the lid and adjust the wheels to correct gobo and colour it will function correctly until reset or power down. Can someone suggest anything? or any local light repair to London who can look at the problem

When you switch on the head should go through a calibration routine to establish the position of/reset the wheels. I think on the Robes they have optical sensors for this. It may be worth investigating if these are all clean and in correct position as a first port of call.

The robes use hall effect sensors with a small magnet siliconed into the colour and gobo wheels. Check the magnets, ie make sure they havent fallen out. The sensors look like little transistors, the gobo sensor is on pcb11 and the colour on pcb7, these are tiny pcbs with 3-pin connectors on them. Make sure the gap from the magnets to the hall sensors isnt too wide, this can happen if the wheels have worked loose and moved too far forward...unlikely though unless they've been taken off and not put back properly. Then check for dry joints at the connectors, then check for continuity from the wires on the sensors right through to the main pcb, they pass through an intermediate pcb on their way and corrosion can occur here due to sweat and smoke residue.

I'm assuming this is the Scan575XT, not the moving head, you didnt say. If it's the moving head spot575 or wash575 then check for breaks in the cables for the sensors where they pass through the yoke pivot points.

To test the sensors themelves, they give a logic out when the magnet is present, the connections are +v, 0V, OP.

If you get stumped with this one I can recommend giving a call to Coloursound Experiment on 02089659119, they are based in Park Royal and are robe users, Paul in their ML department is very capable at robe repairs, and as they have a large stock of robe units they carry all kinds of spares

well if they are anything with the 160xt spots there is a calibration menu buried in the fixture that can align the wheels

also might want to look at the stepper motors, as they could be at fault and require replacing.. or the control chips for the stepper motors

I'm not all that confident looking into part/component level, i have spoken to someone as sugested. Can someone give me a rough idea on servicing cost per moving head

If you contact Robe themselves in Northamptonshire, their service/support dept are fantastically helpful in terms of diagnosing faults, and can obviously supply as parts required.

I've got some Robe-made Futurelight moving heads (MH660s and MH640s) and because they have the same internals as the 250XTs, Robe UK are still able to help out with those as well.

They are usually an easy fix, with many faults as listed above.

A cost is a hard one as it could be as little as hall effect IC re-alignment, or stepper motor, stepper control i.c. and faulty interconnects. Had them all. Ususally as a result of the fan being clogged up, smoke shite and crap everywhere. In a bad case I wash them out after a carefull air line clean out outside wearing a mask and goggles!! I've had them near full solid of muck and dust before and still got all to work, so they should be an easy fix.

Personally I find Robe crap to deal with and stupidly expensive. They have no component level engineers.
