Details;

Got 2 of the same model same brand sound cards put in, Sound blaster live CT 4780
with 1 card only in its fine, but with 2 cards in each PCI slot it causes a system conflict n the pc switches off, then i have that serious error screen when it starts again
Windows operating system is XP home

Possible I/O conflict but cant work out how to change it??

also a quick question, if i have 1 soundcard in pci slot 1 and the second in pci slot 3 would this cause the volume to be louder on any of them

any help guys as this is really buggin me!

Is there an error number or anything displayed or just a window telling you that something went wrong somewhere?

Have you checked to see if you have the latest drivers for your mother board and the cards themselves.

Also it shouldn't affect volumes depending on which PCI slots you have the cards inserted in!

Are you sure 2x of those cards is a valuable configuration?

I would google for that card before anything else.

I know all about IRQs, and data ports, and  BIOS PCI slot configs, but if the drivers don't support your configuration, you're stuffed.

Is there a reason you need 2x sound cards?

Another possibility is installing 1st card, and modify IRQ & I/O addresses/resources from default.

That way, 2nd card installation "may" install to default settings, and not conflict with first.

Lev i use 2 of them so that the outs will go into seperate channels in the mixer, drivers didnt need installing as windows picked them up staright away and they were ready to use

"Another possibility is installing 1st card, and modify IRQ & I/O addresses/resources from default." this sounds like it could work as when i had just the 1 card in it was fine

Don't forget those cards are 12 years old. Dead

EDIT:If you get a modern 5.1 £20 sound card it will "probably" have better sound quality, modern drivers that make better use of CPU multimedia instructions, and probably 4-6x  outputs + optical/digital. Confused

If you're dealing with IRQs and ports, your cards are too old! I rember setting them up to play Doom, and so will you Lev!

Learnt years ago, bin old cards, and get new stuff, where the  plug and play works... Embarrassed

Get a 5.1 sound with RealTek chipset... Then you get a load of fancy software for doing configs...

Your computer must be old, if you dont have 5.1 HD sound on the motherboard...

My motherboard has it, and I bought it in 2007... LOL
