i've murdered mine Cry

taken it to the doctor/surgeon and apparently soundcraft don't have any, if they do get one it'll take 3 months and cost me £80. looking at the cost of generic switchmode power supplies this is a little over the odds though there may be something i'm missing? according to the feller who's opened it up there's no reason a generic one couldn't be fitted but that the board isn't marked with output voltages, any ideas?

merry christmas, happy new year and all that, been a couple of months, hope none of the major posters have disappeared after any major bunfights Wink

This is one top shelf mixer. Shame it's discontinued. See here for block diagram.

thanks for the reply, it is indeed a lovely mixer, unfortunately the block diagram yields no clues as to the specifications of the power supply.

Assuming it hasn't caught fire or been run over by a lorry
I will be able to mend it for you.

Right, I've just heard from boycey that his power supply is installed and working.
Satisfied customer, I usually like to kill 'em and hang them on the workshop wall.
And no, don't work on one yourself, 400v stings.

What about the PSU in a Soundcraft E8?  Played with those?  Got a long-term resident one in the workshop which refuses to be repaired.  I've verified everything except the SMPS transformer.  The PSU runs but only until the bootstrap supply is exhausted because the auxillary supply isn't coming up.  It's the second one I've had through my door with the same problem, never managed to fix the other one either.

I'll have another look one day.  It's not really worth buying a new PSU because it'd cost as much as buying another desk second hand.

Yes, worked on plenty of those, none of it is aided by ease of access!
I might be able to give you some pointers but unfortunately you would need to pm me because the inner workings of a smpsu is possibly not a good subject for open discussion just in case someone is watching whose needs exceed their skills!

Ciao a tutti

If you look carefully in the schematics, you will see the power connector and its voltages

+8V
GND
+15V
GND
GND
-15V

I would not recommend trying to fix the PSU yourself, it can kill you for real!

I would also not recommend fixing this PSU, just get an alternative (switching one)

Hello Forum,

my PSU on my Urei 1601e also broke and im glad that these mixers still have owners.

My Problem started with not getting any Headphone output, this was years ago and i nearly forgot it. I resently picked it up to get my old 1210 running and desided to give it a try to repair.
First thing i did, was removing the front panel and desoldering the headphone jacks. After checking the voltages on the cn11 header i noticed very high voltages between ground and v+.

I removed the psu and unplugged cn2 to messure it direclty and getting different voltage levels as described in the schematic.

I think i have a blown component around ic1 but could not find a damaged one. Desoldered and checkt D1, D2, R16 and C8, they seam to work.

could the IC1 (UCC3842A) be damaged? Some pointers what to check would be appreciated.

Or should I stop worrying and get a new PSU ? in this case, which one should i get.

Every help is appreciated.
Best
Fabian

It sounds as if you are getting the three voltages at the power supply, why do you think that the fault in the headphone output has anything to do with the power supply directly? Could this "high" voltage at cn11 be +30v thereby meaning you have a low - voltage (ie an unbalanced output because of no 0v connection)? These mixers are a very poor design, there is no protection from faulty components and there is always the likelihood that you have a failed headphone amp which could pull the +-15v down. Usually though the amp goes short circuit and kills the mixer by burning all the way back to the processor.
