Would like to hear the results, apparently they can give the PD's a run for their money.

just got 4 also.. initial response to them is they apear well built big magnets strong looking cones... can see the cost cutting went on the pressed steel chasis rather than cast... but still its really thick pressed steel. They certainly don't look like they're gonna fall apart. quite impressed by sound in one of my piramid boxes also.

The Pro ones are cast chassis. Pressed ones are the normal Sovereign

how did these go lev? |
Been such a lazy @!$#, have only tried 2x of them in some 2x15 reflex cabs at home... Madness... Warm and deep straight out the box...
Had another look at the HD15 sims, and so exchanged the other 2x drivers for Sovereign Pro 15-500, as graph dictated smoother response. I'll compare the 2x different types, and report.
All drivers provided by Mr PauliePaul of course.

Lev, do you reckon these drivers will be a good substitute for PD1550 in a reflex box?? Also, would a Proline 3000 drive 4 of these easily doing 80-300Hz?

Never heard PD1550 in reflex, only in Turbo 215s, and Shanti Wbins, so don't know. But the Fanes seem to be very strong drivers.

i dont think the fane can match the PD range of 15's, not when the Fane costs 70 quid !
I would accept any "LF" driver to have the ripple cone.
Lev i bet that Fane sounds very musical and promising, but it wont drop nothing like the pd1550
The New Fane 15 can be compared to the Eminance 15" range ..some of the new Fane range will match or better the Eminance range.

yeah i knew that already, wasn't paying a great deal of attention to the post obviously. but is that the only difference??? Anyway the pressed steel chasis look pretty tough so i'm not that worried.. they may even be slightly lighter because of it.

The pro has longer voice coil (26mm vs 18mm) so higher xmax and greater bass control at high excursion

No. Fane is way way above of the similar priced Eminance (in terms of musicality, frequency response and cone quality). In the pro entry level stuff, no one is close to Fane now. Kudos to Mark and his team
PS: I have compared Kappa 15LFA vs Sov 15-600LF and Kappa Pro 15LF2 vs Sov Pro 15-600LF.

I have just been building some 15" bandpass horns and had the opportunity to test the Sov Pro 15-500LF against the Eminence Kappa Pro 15LF and also an old ME15-300B. The Sovereign sounded a lot better to my ears, clearer and more purposeful. It also feels and looks lot better built. I told the client this and he's mildly annoyed that the new driver beats his old ones...cos now he feels like he has to pay for the Fanes!

The general consensus seems to be that HD15 drivers should have a minimum X-Max of 5.5mm. The sovereign 15-600LF qualifies on that basis but the Pro version is 6.9mm so would presumably be better.

The sims I have done for HD15s, clearly show Sovereign Pro 15-500 to have smoother, flatter response than either Sov Pro 15-600LF or PD154.
Which is why I swapped back 2x of my new Pro 15-600LFs for 2x Pro 15-500.
Will do the comparison this week or next, and report back.

nice bit of necro here, but i've had 2x 600LF (non pro) in my HD15's for a few events, the results have been underwhelming
i think the issues lie in my DSP programming, and the fact the drivers are woodscrewed in ;)
i'm getting 2 more soon, so will try and nice block of HD15's as the maker intended
i will be nutting them in properly too, and also using some yoga mat around them to seal them in.
will report back :)

I always found ES18s, even with fairly budget drivers, superior to HD15s, in every way.

i don't think it's fair to compare 15's and 18's in that fashion really
but i'm sure they are
back on the thread, i'm throwing sovs in almost anything these days and they actually perform pretty decently in anything i chuck them in
best 15 for the price out there? in my opinion, yes
