The horn flairs (essentially the whole of the speaker) is moulded (fibreglass?). The back chambers are cast metal(from memory) "bowls" and the drivers are somewhat custom having the axe head phase plugs (again moulded....) mounted with a bolt threw the middle of them.....

The only bit you would be able to try and build cost effectively your self would be the wooden box that encases all of that....

Haha,

Not so easy to build, no........thanks for the info, appreciate it....someone else had just told me that too.....I'm at the very early stages of trying to put a system together, so you're very right, I hadn't investigated that thoroughly yet....christ there's a lot to take in and learn...no wonder everyone I know who is involved goes on about how it becomes an obsession and a black hole that all your cash goes into, haha.

If you hear of anyone that has any floodlights for sale, or any good contacts, could you let me know? Any experience with them to pass on at all? The going rate second hand through suppliers seems to be £850 then VAT added, with original drivers....

You should be looking to pay about £1500 per pair. You could speak to Pete Brotzman at Crystal, but may find you'll end up paying a bit more than that.

Yeah someone else mentioned them, and GDS. Both sell 2nd hand listed as 850 + vat.....

The price would be more tempting without vat, and i think vat has just been put up by our coalition govt!! I think I may not buy the pair that are going at the mo at that price as the general indication from people is I may get a cheaper/better deal at some point.

any thoughts?

Well thats £50 saved ot that price...

still interested to know if people think I should hold on for better opportunity..../any idea how often they crop up?

Peter @ Crystal pro would probably be the best bet to try, if you've got cash to spend it would likely be worth seeing if you can get a better price what with this recession and people wanting to move stock..

btw What are you looking to use them with (bass / sub's)? wondering if you’re aware there only good down to around 180Hz so need a bass bin and one that can go up that high without sounding like $hit, they will also require an active x-over (3way for the Floodlight + 4th way for sub's) and thus 4 way of amps to drive all that, which makes for an expensive first step in to building a system.

There are a lot of other boxes that would be a better option if this is a 'first step' in to building up a PA system fwiw.

Hi Matt...

Good points...I'm still pretty much undecided and open-minded to everything, and still naive...so much to think of, weigh up and also learn. However, I'm fairly determined to create a system that I can work with over the next 3-4 years, and have a business plan with a friend that I would need a pretty decent system for.

I've got some martin audio 115 kick bins that i'm thinking of using as part of it. Really like the looney bins too. So, I was thinking maybe 4 looneys, 2 martins (I've measured them up and am pretty sure they will go on top of looneys and also go up to 250hz, so would meet the floodlights), 2 floodlights....

Any thoughts. I know its expensive for amps and cables, but like I said, it would be an investment. I've got fairly stable work at the moment and income, although I am also wary of costs.....i'm not rich!!!! Just saved some cash.

Like I say, any advice is more than appreciated and I'm open to all.
