i have just spent the past two weeks in my garden/garage with the other half making a mess. and we have just completed one of two of our 1850's (v-18) and i must say after making a disasterous flop on my attempt to build startec sb's because the company couldnt get the cuts right (being retards) i am very impressed with these. i have very little carpentry knowlege and i cut all the mitres myself, sounds clean punchy and smooth at high levels and the spl is great! well pleased. i will soon be adding pictures of the process for other peoples refferance. i would love for everyones input/comments tips etc as i have just started building speaker cabs and dont intend to stop any time soon :)

learned a few new things on the way. open to constructive critosism (if that is how you spell it)
will start with the rear chamber first as it proven more difficult to put together the other way round.

lol yea i was wondering if anyone would notice that. camera is a bit shit lol.
well were using our peavey hdh4's cause we already have them but im looking into building some mt122's or some xtro. just trying to decide at the moment. using a t.a 2400 cause i got it cheap and it doubles up in power in 4 ohm. money is an issue for me as i dont have a job so until i have some real income i cant really get anything too fancy. the amp is golden does the trick a beauty, although it only gives each driver 650w it still sounds great and theres less chance of blowing them up :) music wise i like i bit of everything and that is what will be played through them. mainly stuff like hardtek, techno, jungle and dark dnb.

i take it you have v18 1000's you'll want to give them drivers more power than that as you will find your more likely blow them up by underpowering them rather than over powering them. if you push the amp to hard.

i have been told both that and what i believed by many people so im confused about it all. what would you recommend powering them with that isnt going to cost me my liver and a lung? tops could do with going a little deeper as the mid bass from them is weak. its more to just get me by at the moment.

and surely if i keep the well away from clipping then it would be fine. or is that a complete mis-conception?

yeah, its the clipping that does it - just stop it clipping too much and the drivers will be fine

with the tamp you just wont get the most out of the drivers though Smile

right well you want to be giving them 1000watt minimum and as youve said they are 8ohm in a pm. then your best bet would be to connect the drivers in parrallel down to 4ohm and get an amp that will do 2000watt 4ohm bridge. i think the matrix xp2000h does that. and there will be quite a few other amps out there that will do that power. and it wont hurt if you give them more power i would say upto around 3000watts wouldnt hurt.

yea thats what i thought. when i can afford to upgrade i will but the beauty of that amp is that all i have to do is add two more speakers in parallel and it will run it pretty much the same as it would with. its just that we can run more for less, makes sense when ur on a job seekers style budget.
any comments on the build subbass. being a brizzle lad urself then im sure you will hear our system very soon :) would be nice for you to let me knw what you think when it comes to it.

im not to up on it dan but i think you would get one used for about £150. ive got two matrix xp2000h but i bought these new. i would well recomend you go the mt122 route as im building four 1850horns with two mt122 soon. im not sure if im loading the 1850horns with pd1850 or pd1851 yet though as i need more feedback on the pd1851's performance in the 1850horn. it loooks good sofar though. ;) ill be taking a slightly diffrent route than you on amping though as ill run the four 1850horns from one void infinite 8 v2. Big smile
