My dad still has an old gramophone in the loft somewhere complete with HMV hard plastic (bakelite or similar?) records. Should dig that out really and have a gander...

The word horrendous comes to mind. The shape may be correct, but the material will be too thin. Aluminum is bad enough, thin brass would be worse. Would make an amusing picture though.

Go and pound a piece of aluminium with a hammer, that's what it will sound like. The material will resonate like crazy.
