NO ILLICIT LYRICS! Means NO LYRICS PROMOTING GUNS, OR DOWNGRADING WOMEN (UNDER GAL ETC. ETC.)

No toasting means no pulling up tunes then playing the instumental/version and singing/toasting some lyrics.
MC's can intro tunes and build a vibes without this.

"so need clear rule so everybody know what is not tolerate cause some sound man think them can do what them want if them have big following"

true enough - when we promoted a revival cup a few years back we said no specials promoting the sounds cos we wanted them to play real music, but still some a disqualify themselves thru foolishness.

No toasting means no pulling up tunes then playing the instumental/version and singing/toasting some lyrics.
MC's can intro tunes and build a vibes without this.

The fundamental part of a sound is the people behind the sound system singer, DJ's etc if you restrict that then you restrict the sound nothing wrong with a sound man expressing himself as long as it is according to the vibes that is happening on the day and the words spoken are meaningful and conscious take a leaf out of Jah Tubby's book Professor Natty from Tubby's sound has entertained an audience for years using the instrumental side of a tune, loose that and then it just people playing music no identity.

to be honest i dont get the "no toasting" rule, basically its saying when i play the vocal side to a track i cant play the version after, is this correct?  Confused

The rule dosen't say the version cannot be played, afterall they are a lot of wicked riddims out they that are nice without vocals.
What we want to avoid is the nights turning into a MC clash or a kind of stage show.  Not that we have anything againts that. We grew up with and followed sounds like Jah Love, King Stur Gav, Stereo One and others like them who had MC's toasting all night and we love that, but just not for these events. Sometimes this also kills the vybe of a dance when not done properly. So we rather just avoid it totally.

I think the rules are ok ! why would youse expect them to be the same at every event ? we need to rise to the occasion and stop worrying about all this pettiness ! reggae music is reggae wether it be steppers roots rub a dub ska beat danechall or studio 1 . and when we stop dividing ourselves and realize this only then will our dances start to get back to the way it used to be sound system has been dead because of the we only play this or that way type of attitude !   anyway happy new year to all  LOL Heart

It's people like you why the sound system business is the way it is now. Negative and narrow minded. you obviously are a coward as well, by creating a new username to hide your true identity.

We welcome everyones views and opinions but please keep it positive. I think you need to have a read of this new year message in the general section of the forum.

The thing is QSS is not saying every single event ever to take place in the world should be like this, He is merly stating the rules for how his event will be run. At the end of the day soundsystems will be out and good music will be played so I fail to understand where the problem lies? Maybe if you feel so passionate about the way you would like the event to be run maybe you should run one yourself and promote what you love about it Smile The more events for soundsystems to play the better.

Too right. None of us Neighbourhood crew play any of the noisy 'wobble' /hype dubstep that's become so popular these days... Dubstep to us is all about the deep meditate-on-bassweight vibes. Even if it doesn't blatantly sound like reggae or dub, PROPER dubstep still has have that spacey dub vibe and reggae groove, as well as the big garage/techno/jungle/drum & bass influences. Truly multi-cultural music in my opinion.

I'll start then.

Unique star/ Jah loko.
Monster stack with brutal face rearranging bass!
That said it didn't sound consistant throught(obviously we all got louder throughout the night) ...with some dangerously shrill mid highs at times which had me sticking my fingers in my ears ...waaay too much, and an apparant lack of kick section even though they had monster 3x15 reflex? The bass end sounded a little flabby and uncontrolled at times(tierd drivers maybe?),and the smell of voice coil had me a little worried.
Still by the end it was sounding lovely... best it sounded all night, with a bit less bass and less midtop seemed to make it more balanced and less fatiguing .Wicked tunes, well done.

Precision Sound.
Medium stack height, looking wicked with them phili's showing their horns to the world!Bass was heavy but sometimes muddy, again not enough kick and at points too much top for my liking, painfull.
Them Shortman mini's aint too bad... suprising amounts of bass from the smallest boxes, but their was also the smell of VC coming from the turbo's and it wasn't very controlled to my ears.Sorry to say I thought was the least balanced sounding, wether that was down to the anceint 7 inchs tweets was playing I'm not sure nonetheless a nice selection of tuneage.
Again by the end was the best sound from it,seemed to of backed off the bass a little to give a more even controlled less overdriven sound!.Again big props to tweets and crew .Well done.

Neighbourhood Sound.
F**k me what a rig! ...who owns that I wonder?would love to meet him!?
Smallest stack there but suprisingly heavy!
So we started out a little worried thinking jesus we're up against 2 serious sounds here as they were already set up and playing whilst we set up,plus having new drivers in didn't help my concerns as I wasn't in the mood for total destruction just yet!
But by the end I believe we raised a few eyebrows and maybe changed some opinions on who was heaviest(again I use that term loosely as it's a matter of taste)...The term 'it's like David and Goliath' was used more than once!!
Them 1851s though... what a driver!Just kept taking the power with no smell of VC or flabbyness and only starting to get a little outta shape when putting the full power from a K8 powersoft(big thanks to the man himself QSS for the loan!) into them.
It's my belief that it was the amp losing the control not the drivers and that was hardly noticeable when runnoing flat out, and we still could have gone a lot further with them given a K10.The Hogs were ticking over ,plenty xmax left and when fully broken in will be hard to match.
Bass was balanced tight and low hitting all notes evenly, the most musical IMO with plenty of kick, midtop wasn't the loudest it could have been by any means, but we were running it at 2.6 ohms from one side of a JBL MPX600(a big mistake on my part).Didn't have time to swap out that amp as the other channel is blown. We should have bi-amped also to get the most from it.
Still at the end we pulled it outta the bag with some monster tunes that put smiles on most faces! And seemed to be moving the most air in the room!

Each sound was exellent in it's own right and the fact that they were very different setups meant that it was a really varied night keeping it interesting.
Some very hard to beat systems.

Great to see o many SP members there,I even heard Lev was there, gutted not to have met you.Maybe next time.

Huuge bigups to Mister Kutty Qualitex himself,
Kilowatts,Paulus,Hi grade,Tweets and crew, luton soundman, ballistic sounds,Massieh warrior crew,Neighbourhood crew(GingerB,Corticye,Illogic,Dread Stripe ,Digga )Gladstone,Daz pollen,Bryan M and the Jah loko crew ,and everyone who made it such a monster night. My ears are still ringing!

tweets minis were dangerous!!  small boxes BIG sound. i dnt think people expected such a big sound from them little boxes! the element of supriseWink fuzzys hogs dropped LOW and clean. 1851 in hogs is a clear winning combination!! the bass from all sounds was very impressive. jah lokos modded supers were LOUD and well rounded. there were some big sub amps on the night including void, powersoft but jah lokos 'copy' amp suprised me and done very well i thought Clap i look forward to hearing all the sounds again. for those of you who couldnt make it i'd advise you to reach the next one!

For me Jah Loco and Tweeter were the heaviest, but the Neighbourhood/Fuzzy crew did start pushing it towards the end, and had some serious SPL. Don't think the Mids kept up with their bottom end though.

The star of the show for me was the Jah Loco sub amp.

The SP armchair amp mob ridiculed it without even hearing it (as usual), so shame on them... LOL

Yet another lightweight amp used in anger across 1850 scoops, in roots clash, properly delivered the goods, this time with real sub depth.

PKN, FFA, Matrix.. watch out...

lev say neither Jah Loco or TB ever sound flabby, they just sounded deeper than fuzzy all night.

he say he spend his last hour directly opposite Jah loco and fuzzy stack at back wall next to spanners, and Jah Loco depth and spl hitting him all night, and fuzzy stack got loud, but was nowhere near the same.

1) new tight drivers more power needed.Keeping it real.

2) we notch out all frequenceys from 35 down giving more headroom.
Plus 60hz is down to keep the balanced sound.Rather then upping it to get that scoop bang Lev is talking about. If one note bass is your thing then thats cool.
We don't use a preamp either.

3)Youngblood are you Lev ?cos you got a lot to say from him!!Why can't he commen't here himself and not send his messenger boy..?

I would agree though for 60 hz spl Jah loko were out in front!

finally just got home at last, by the time i got back i was straight back to workOuch!! Say now, ive never really been to something like this before so obviously my views are going to be different from tradition so to speak - not used to the methods employed.

My review -

tweeters rig: serious heavy sound from the mini's earlier on but from early sound checks filled the room with burning glue smell and sounded right on the limit in a good way, for the tunes they played the raw powered distortion fattened it up, kick sounded good, just not quite high enough for my taste, mid was good, topend i didnt enjoy, was very shrill at times and painfully loud!! As the night went on the levels balanced out with the scoops backed off slightly and the topend down a bit. I assume its tradition to play with the one deck(?) but some of those silences were pretty long and awkward IMO. Really good throw on the sub, at the far end of the room and toilets my face was still vibrating!!

Unique sound/Jah loko: scoops played well and sounded full, nearer the stacks the sub was insane but didnt seem to throw as well compared to the mini's. The kick section was barely noticeable, biggest kick cabs but didnt seem to be doing much. Mid was good from the 12's. I didnt like the topend, so many comps in a line combing and really ripping your face off in the room - kind of overdrive sound you get on early metal tracks. By the end was spanking out some fat basslines, just let down by the lack of kick n too much top. Hate to sound rude but almost sounded like a smily face EQ although this could just be taste of how you like your dub? either way sounded good.

devonshire brigade: Worried at first, after tweeters warmup i didnt think it would compete but things improved greatly as it went on. Love the sound of the f1 midtops and in typical style of me, have to say the splayed tops really did give a much cleaner sound!! The novasound kicks are also pretty nice as always but still dont like the sound when its brute force kick (the kind described as sledgehammer on a sheet of wood) and midway through the night were too high a level but seems to die down again later. Midtop was a good balance at first but i feel it was overpowered later as the bass end crept up louder. Now the hogs, quite like them! The most musical IMO of the scoops, and stayed with a clean sound. They didnt drop as low as the others IMO but as fuzzy said, were being run in still and the eq was backed off from 35hz. Keeping the cleanliness of the sub seemed to make them sound quieter than the other rigs but by the one track a rig final by far did the most nostril vibrating.

Id like to think the different plackback sources made some difference too, between the vinyl cd and whatever format corticles were on the mac? Seemed the different times music was produced with the technology of the day gave different weights also.

Without being biassed, i found fuzzys hog rig the nicest, purely on its cleanliness i strive for in the commercial applications i work rather than brute force.

All 3rigs were brilliant and the music selections were also inpecible, i must get on to expanding my music collection to include.

Oh and sirens, custom siren on fuzzys rig going into kaos pad was amazing, especially with the owner standing there playing it like an intrument. Im not really a fan of sirens however, IMO the music is key, they got slightly annoying like a bad mc who keeps blabbing over the tunes by the end.

Brilliant to meet you all, and i really hope to head over again, loved the relaxed ways of the venue, the thatchers gold cider and the music!! Top night Thumbs Up

waow what a night, first of nuff respect to Kutty Qualitex for putting it all together, wicked event and i can it getting alot bigger and more sucsessful

From the Precision camp, its been a tiring weekend, spent fri sat and sun morning, doing trips to the dump yard throwing out rubbish from the house, non stop lifting washing mashines n stuff and them to carry the rig into the van was a feat in itself!!
Pouring down with rain all the way down the M4, finally got to the venue and Jah Loko was doing there sound check with ras Muffet at the controls, looked at his giant stack and felt the lump in my throat, when he droped the bass my lot jus looked at each other and thought the same thing, uh oh!!
After finding out my power leads were too short we had to set up right across from Loko crew and stack was about 8 metres away aginst the wall, bad idea as i was exactly in the middle of the hall so eye balls were rattling no matter who was playing haha

Jah Loko: sounded heavy as we walked in, towards the end of the dance it seemed like they turned the bass down a bit, but IMO they played there mids and tops kinda loud, music selection was wicked and i loved the dubs they were playing, the relick they played of love jah was killer, there stack looks very intimidating and i was impressed with the bass amp they used, lab gruppen copy was sounding decent, did the job nicely Clap

Fuzzylogic: nice little set up, kinda reminded me of Sauls set at BNE2010, bass nice and controlled, mids were nice and clear, tops however were lacking IMO, not enough power into em maybe couldnt hear the crispy high hats as much, unless the tunes didnt have high hats in em? gotta admit i wasnt really feeling the music u guys were playing sounded to robotic with no feeling but i did like the way ur guys were selecting very professional, Fuzzy also a top guy to chat too, should be a good pic of me u n Bry somewhere, 1851s were sounding very nice, dropped some super smooth low notes towards the end with serious pressure when close to the stack, top stuff guys Thumbs Up

Precision: played strictly of vinyl/dubplates, did the sound check and it was sounding nice, wasnt to impressed with my mids though, felt like they were lacking and couldve taken some more power, dont think the amp was enough for em, gotta try a diff amp n see what happens
was quiet nervous at first but chilled out more as the neight went on, think i took waaaay too much music with me lol least i know now for next time haha
Turbos were nearly new and had only been run in at home in the shed and i was impressed with the way they sounded, mind you as i was running the tunes and the set was in the middle of the hall i couldnt get away to see how they sounded at other parts of the hall so any feedback on this would be nice, got loadsa nice comments from nearly everyone in the venue which put a smile on my face, wanted to play more tunes but kept with the programme and was happy with what was played, at one point i thought id blown the tops but luckily it was fluff on the needle, that was a relief lol, need to find out how Ren & Tony drop so heavy without getting feedback, anyone get any video footage? saw Ras Muffet with a video camera so will try get some of him, got home and finished unloading about 6:30am so slept all day and night Smile

Overall a very enjoyable night, again big respect to Qualitex, Killowatts, Paulus, luton_Soundman, Ballistic Sounds, Levyte, Spanners, Bryan for use of the Void Inf 8 amp and the HD quality pics wicked amp with nuff power in it, Ras Muffet, Fuzzy and crew, Ligwa, Mango, Jah Loko and crew, Sav Imperial, Masai, Ital Rockers, Nuff respect to everyone and anyone ive forgotten from Tweeter and Precision Crew
