Subject: Best kick bins between X1 & MT-130 ? HD15? MTH-30?

Hi everybody !
I'm totally new on this forum where i learn so much !

I've made 4 X1 and two MT-130 (http://hornplans.free.fr/mt130.html),
and I'm looking for the best suitable kick bins to put between those cabs.
HD15 or MTH-30 ?
The MTH-30 looks easier to build and less expensive too..
How many of them ? (2 seems to me good)

By the way, I mainly play Bass music : Dub, Dubstep, D'n'B, and some deep techno/house too.

I plan to X over that way :
- X1 : 30 to 70 hz
- kick bin : 70 to about 150 hz

What do you think ?
Any phase and delay issues ?

Thanks very much

imho dont think hd15 has enough spl in 65-80hz region for dub/dnb

es18 does it perfectly but big and heavy

I'm looking for something quite compact like the MTH-30, and easy to build..
Does anyone know this cab ?
http://hornplans.free.fr/mth30.html

What do you think about USB ?

The MKH-230 looks great too !

Thanks for advices !

Electrovoice DC-ONE

X1 : 30 - 70/80 hz
kick : 70/80 - 140/200 hz
HMid : 140/200 - 1000/1500 hz

Any advice for the Xover points ?

no sorry, i am in the same situation as you apart from i have a g sub and am making two x1's and possibly two hd15's.

IMO, it might not be good to mix two different style of subs,
go for either G subs or X1 but not both.

I'm really looking for good kicks that reach 70 hz easily..
MTH-30 ?

do hd 15's not hit the 70 hz easily? sorry dont know anyone who has built mth 30 or heard them.

why dont you just run the x1's up to 80 - 100 hz?

and any reasons for not mixing g sub with x1's?

X1 are more performant down to 80 hz.
Think I'm gonna try the MTH-30.

And usually you can have troubles with phase and delay combining two different
subs. There will be a lack of linearity IMO.

Most of clearest sound systems use only two different cabs :
Subs and midtops.
I decided to add kick bins to reach more clarity and good response.
As I'm a sub bass addict, I want my X1 just running below 70 hz.

Am I right ? Anyone ? Embarrassed

I have a MTH-30! It's a  lovely sounding cab, but i use it as a sub for small partys(40-120Hz).
I use the RCF LF12G301 because in the sim it seems a bit more linear than the PD.12SB30, and in italy RCF isn't very priceyBig smile...

Thanks Geko,

Could you show me the two different sims with PD 12SB30
and RCF LF12 G301 please ?
Might be interseted in that speaker too.
But it's sure now I'm going to build two MTH-30 ! Wink

Thx

I do not think MTH30 is suitable as a kick above X1. Stick with HD15 or ES18 or USB.

I really don't think the mth30 gives a good kick tone, another vote for es18 here.

I'm in a similiar position.. i was thinking of using the X1, MKB-230, and MT-130..
questions: 1.how would i cross it over, aren't most active crossovers 2x3way? (yes noob question but meh)
2. how many of each would i use?

You would need something like a berry ultradrive to put n delay to allign the speakers

isnt ultradrive 3way? i'd need a 4way xo

A ultradrive has 3 inputs and 6 outputs, so If you're going four way you'll need two of them.

Or you should consider buying a DBX or so with 8 outputs.

Reasonable 8 output DSP would be Xilica XP-4080

Ultradrive would work with mono sub, mono kick and stereo midtops, that's the way I'm usually running it, its routing makes it possible, something that is not possible with DBX Driverack PA+ for example.

MTH30 will probably sound quite bad doing mid/kick bass only. It is not designed for it. HD15, USB or ES18 would be the preferred ones for kick. HD15 being the smallest with smallest driver would generally be "fastest" and drop off highest, while USB is in the middle and many describe it being perhaps best sounding out of three with sufficient SPL for just about anything. In stacks it can be used without sub in most cases (excluding dub/dubstep/dnb naturally). ES18BPH is largest, drops lowest and can be used without sub, a bit like more hi-fi version of 1850 what it comes to frequency range.

Ye I was going for mono sub and kick as there is not much point in stereo bass

Because my pre amp has crossoverpoints of 90-360hz for kick. dont think i can change it.
do you know some other bins that can play untill 360hz?

Letting your pe-amp determine what bins you build is backwards. Don't compromise the speakers, look at other options for xovers

Or go reflex 15's for now, then have the option of putting them in horns later.

most preamp builders can change the x-over frequencies of their machine, maybe try to contact yours, otherwise some sounds take the main output of the pre and run it through a lms / xover

First I will try to reset the x-overpoints of my pre amp. otherwise i will have to make 15 inch reflex bins i think.
