Hi,

Been haveing this problem with my EMU 0202 USB soundcard since i got my new laptop with windows 7, somtimes it boots up and works, somtimes it boots up and says USB device not recognised, sometimes it boots up and recognises the soundcard but you get no audio,   somtimes unplugging and plugging it back in gets it going again.  If that dosent work then shutting down the PC and unplugging the usb cable, then booting up and plugging in the usb cable once windows 7 has booted normallys gets it going.

it somtimes works fine then stops in the middle of playing audio,  and i have to go through the unplug reset etc...

the drivers im using are beta drivers from the emu website, which i suspect is the problem, i was just wondering if anyones got any other ideas as to what it might be?

The soundcard works fine on windows XP BTW

Many thanks.

James

I suspect that it is just windows peeing around with the USB interface, when you plug it in and it does not work have you looked in the Device Manager to see if it recognised?

The 0202 is an old interface and probably will not get the future support it needs.  I went Focusrite USB instead and so far has worked faultlessly on XP and Win 7.

USB really is a bit of a wanky interface.

50% chance this is a power issue. Not enough USB power.
Does the card have the facility for a power supply?
Try it in a Win 7 PC, not laptop.

Cheers for the replys,  When the sound just dosent work it still says its there and working in device manager , if it dosent appear on boot up it says usb device not found in the task bar icon and device manager.

I thought it might be a power issue, i could try it thought a powerd usb hub, ive been meaning to buy one anyway.

Ive tryed the vista drivers and its behaveing exactly the same as with the windows 7 drivers.

Thanks.

i had an 0404 which never missed a beat using vista drivers in win7 32bit, i thought the 0202 could use usb power but anoyingly the 0404 dragged a bit too much juice from usb so had to be externally powered, i'm assuming your pc is generally running ok and you downloaded the right drivers? i found gearslutz.com a good forum for soundcard discussions.

The 0202 is usb powered, theres no 9V input or anything, im using the beta windows 7 drivers, i tryed the vista drivers but had the same problems, seems like it could be a power issue so i think ill get a powerd usb hub.   The laptop is a cheepo acer emachines but everything elce seems to be fine,  i might try a windows XP install but theres no graphics drivers or wireless drivers for XP so i might have problems with that.  ill try gearslutz, i think there was an emu forum ill try on there too.

Thanks.

I have a new LMS that I am evaluating, on XP I plug it in it finds the drivers and works, Win 7 50/50 when it does not find the device only a full reboot will get it back to again 50/50. This requires no power so just a driver, timing issue.

Fingers crossed its ok now.

Thanks for your help guys!

is it on a front port or a rear one? have you tried different usb sockets?

It's a long shot, but it could be worth installing the drivers as an administrator in XP compatibility mode, and also to turn off onboard sound in the bios.

Kinda lost patience with this so sorry for not replying, yep i tryed different USB sockets, different things plugged in/not plugged in.  I cant disable onboard sound in the bios but i have disabled it in windows.

Ill look into XP compatibility mode,  should i try XP drivers?  Or windows 7 drivers?

Thanks.
